What did I do to myself?

Recommended Posts

I had this same thought for probably two weeks. OMG, what did I just to do myself?! I literally remember being on the phone with my best friend crying that I had destroyed my life..who in their right mind cuts out their stomach?! I was also very sick the first few days after surgery, the anesthesia made me feel terrible for over a week, my arms would fall asleep randomly, I was nauseous, and I was convinced I had just destroyed my life.

I am now three months short of three years from surgery. I have maintained at goal weight for 14 months and I am SO glad that I had the surgery done. I can finally feel like my life is about something other than losing weight. In the end, every bit of misery those first few weeks after surgery is worth it. You might be freaked out now, but a few months from now, maybe a year from now, you will look back on today and think...ha, all those people were right, it was worth it!

On a medical note, ask your nurses if they are using both Zofran and Phenergan and ask them for Transderm-Scop (it's a little sticker that goes behind your ear). The only thing that got me past the nausea was to tell them to stop the IV narcotics. I got exponentially better after that, so if you think that might be the problem, they can give you liquid OTC pain meds instead. I had no need for heavy drugs after surgery and the vast improvement in my nausea only started when they stopped giving me the IV drugs.

By chance did your weight-loss stop after 2 weeks of loosing 20 pounds

Yes I have kids and also had several abdominal surgeries so I'm not new to surgery and I'm a nurse. I've been walking as much as I can but I am sooooo weak!!

It will get better, today will be horrible. Gas-x is a life saver. I was dizzy too, walk anyway, just have someone go with you. My surgeon does not give narcotics so I was miserable. Just keep taking the meds as often as you can have them, keep your IVF as long as possible. I promise you will feel better in a few days.

Omg feel so much better today. Day 5 post op. Going to see my surgeon today for follow up. Still gassy when liquids go down but it passes quick, sharp and quick. Lol. Pain is better, still there but can see an improvement. Still weak but not AS weak as yesterday. Definitely sipping the Protein shake help curb the weakness and light headed feeling.

Back home from ER after 2.5 liters of IVF. WAS STILL feeling weak and I had a Naked Protein shake and got almost half of it down and felt MUCH better. Also my doctor said to try Egg Drop Soup, which I have to say tastes great!! I am having head hunger big time but getting through it. Pain is almost gone. Even though I WAS drinking my Water, my surgeon said my body had to "catch up" on fluids. Feeling great now and sipping away!! Day 5 post op....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
