You should be walking. There is no need to be going to the gym right away. I was cleared for other exercise after 7 weeks. Worry more about healing right now. The weight comes off easy at first.

@chaelove0810... Getting hurt from exercise tells you the type of exercise your doing isn't for you right now... I was told you could go to the gym the day you come home (probably not realistic) but you had to be mindful of not doing things that would strain you new stomach as it was still healing... Your head is in the right place with focusing on exercise, your body just might need so time to be ready... until your healed fully, probably best to focus on cardio...

You are only 4 weeks... relax a little with the exercise... try not to over do it.. you are still healing...

If you weren't exercising before your body is going to freak out if you go from 0 to 100...

Take it slowly.. walk at a comfortable pace and incline.. and push yourself to do a little extra each day...

Ive always been a fast walker.. and luckily for a fatty i am quite fit... however when i first started i would push myself to do just 5 extra minutes every day... if i couldn't ... then i would try again the next day... it got to the point where that extra 5 mins added up.. the fitter you get the easier it becomes

If you really want to exercise, you should walk or swim, I think it's a bit early for hitting the gym. Good luck.

I started off walking. First a mile at a slow pace, then I added another, and another; slowly increasing my pace. I constantly pushed myself. Eventually, I was running the strait-a-ways and walking the curves at the track, and then one day I did not need to walk the curves. Then one day I decided to walk up the bleachers, then one day I was running them. By the end of the first year I was running the track, bleachers, and added some crossfit in between. One day, after a year, I decided to go to a gym and I hit the weights. I started off with two days, then three, and now--two years after taking to lifting weights--I lift 5-6 day a week. My fitness level did not happen over night. It was a progression and a determination to get fit, to never face obesity again, and to adapt a new, healthy way of life. Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
