Mini gastric bypass in Belgium 20th April 2016

Hi

I'm due for surgery next week. Doing OK with the pre op diet. Getting very nervous about the surgery. Dr Chris de Bruyne is my surgeon and I've done so much research on him and the surgery. I've been struggling with my weight for 20yrs. 6 years ago I lost 6.5 stone through diet and exercise but struggled to keep it off. I'm now back to my weight prior to 6 yrs ago and worrying that the unhealthy diet I did previously will inhibit my weight loss after surgery. I'm travelling from Ireland and would love to hear anyone's story about traveling to Belgium.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Cally,

It's almost been 6 months since my operation, I can honestly say it is the best thing I ever did, I started at 132 kgs and I'm now 83 kgs, I won't lie to you, it's a bit of a learning curve but now I can almost eat a little of anything now, milk is still a bit of a problem though.

Be prepared to spend a fortune on clothes, I've gone from 42 inch waist to 32. I have a little loose skin but no big deal.

Best of luck

Thanks Jackie, that's incredible really, you must be thrilled, yes I'm kind of prepared mentally for the big change, but obviously still very nervous but it's reassuring to hear from someone who has been through it, I plan to be back in work in 10 days post op, I work in an office so do you think that's realistic? Any other tips? Thanks for your post x

I think 10 days is the minimum, I thought I would be back the following week but I needed the 10 days, while there was no ( or very little) pain and uncomfortableness in the days following the operation, it is I suppose a big assault on your system so take your time.

The only tip I can give is, when you think you are full, stop eating straight away, if you overdo it, it can get uncomfortable.

I am very happy with the path I chose, honestly, there are times that I wish I could eat a whole bowl of tribeca chicken wings, but I have never felt disappointed when I leave half of them behind.

Hi there . How are you doing ?

I am new on here and just start the process to do the surgery . I will have a appointment with Frederik in may .

How are you now? Could you tell me what pre op tests you did and how long take to be all ready ?

Hi everyone i am in Ireland too and starting the process to go to Belgian to do a bariatric sleeve .

Could anyone from Ireland tell me what tests pre op need to be done and if that takes so long and how much would cost ? Any advice will be great .

Thank you

Juliana

Hi there,

Did your surgery go well? How are you getting on?

I had my surgery with Dr. Chris last Tuesday in Belgium and I live in Ireland as well.

Would be great to hear how it has been so far?

My story is quite similar to yours. Have been struggling for 18 years and gone through many cycles of losing a lot of weight, but then gaining it again.

I am on full liquids and it is going quite well. Getting a bit bored of the shakes though as I am on them since 2 weeks pre-op

Hi Edelc, I am from Dublin and I will be getting the MGB in September with Chris de Bruyne, I am a fast eater and I am trying to practice slowing down before the surgery. How is the hunger after the operation ? and in the weeks after ?

Hi there, how r u doing? I had MGB in March with Dr Chris, doing well, I'm down 1 stone 5 lbs and I feel great, weight loss has slowed down a lot but I'm feeling like I'm still losing, I find it's important to eat often as you can only eat small bits at a time

Hi there . I am just starting all the process and kind of not sure what the next step. Are you in Ireland too? You did all the pre op tests in the day of the surgery or before?

Could you help me and advise me what the step ? Can't wait to do the surgery .

How are you feeling at the moment? Recovered?
