Dulcolax is fantastic... for the first 3 months I took it twice a week but don't need anything now. In fact in more regular now than before I had the surgery. I used to be lucky to go twice a week, now I go every day.

I used milk of magnesia early on and it always helped, even though I'd still only go every 3 days and it was rock hard. But I eventually found insoluble Fiber to be the key for me. (The Fiber gummies, Benefiber, etc are all soluble fiber and didn't do a thing to help) I add apple pectin fiber and ground flax seed to my Greek yogurt and Protein smoothies every day. I also eat All bran Cereal and Kashi Go Lean Cereal. The result has been daily, soft BMs.

Other people have reported good results with Smooth Move tea and prune juice. And don't forget to drink lots of water!

Went right out and got MOM and Dulcolax too. Took the MOM let's see what happens!

2goldengirl I did tell the Dr when I saw him for my 1 month on Feb 26th and he said that the pain was my signal that I was full or I was eating to fast. As you see I am not a fast eater and have not been for many many years. I told him I am only able to eat 1 to 2 oz of food and taking tiny bites and eating slowly. He said that is how it should be. I asked him how big my tummy was now He said he used a 37 fr whatever that is and that it is about the size of a man's thumb all the way down. So he is well aware of all this pain.

For those taking the Milk of Magnesia + Dulcolax, Do you take them at the same time? I too the MOM around 4 pm yesterday and nothing. Took the Dulcolax at around 7 pm and still nothing has happened. Did manage last night to get down about a 1/2 a cup of crumbled turkey meat before the pain started.

@@ssflbelle - I would think one or the other, not both at the same time. make sure you are still getting in the Water.

Where in Florida are you?

The MOM usually worked overnight for me. It wasn't an instant effect. Took it at bedtime and pooped in the morning.

Yesterday was the first day in over 3 weeks I was able to eat food and not get that terrible under the left breast pain. It felt good to eat and not have pain within 3 to 4 bites. I had my first piece of chicken in over 6 weeks and I enjoyed every tiny bite of the 3 oz piece I had. I just hope my ability to eat and drink more Water keeps improving. The last 3 weeks were really getting to me and making me wonder "What did I do to myself" Now I feel more normal emotional and look forward to the road ahead. Thanks everyone for your support through this difficult patch this past weekend.

On the day you ate 84g of Protein the scale went down, so I would up it. The guide for Protein I was given was your weight in kg x 0.8

@ssflbelle My surgeon took me off Protein shakes now that I am on real food I am supposed to get my Proteins there. He said the shakes/drinks are just rich with calories, but when you are on the liquid diet its the only way to get you Protein fast. Your Proteins do sound low as other's have commented. Make sure that your proteins are lean ones and watch the sodium as it will make you retain fluids. I would also substitute maybe a hard boiled egg for Breakfast rather than so many hot chocolate drinks. Keep it up, don't get discouraged! It's just your body's way of saying it thinks you are starving to death and is trying to hold on to the weight.

I lost 20lbs in the first 2 weeks after surgery, then gained 17lbs at 2-3 weeks post-op, and then lost it again 5 days later. Apparently Water retention and my body just going into some shock from the surgery. This was while I was still on the liquid only diet. I have started losing again, but it's slower than I had expected based on what I've seen in other people. Your body might be in a little bit of shock, too.

I think you should try to get most of your Protein from actual food, but sometimes that's problematic when you can't eat enough at one time to make a significant dent. That said, not all shakes are full of sugar, carbs and calories. I don't buy premixed (usually more expensive) but I know you can find 0 carb or low carb Protein powders. Some, if flavored, may have a few carbs, but not many. I use one of the flavored Syntrax powders, which is at 100 calories and (from memory) maybe 7g carbs and 23g protein. The unflavored ones have 0 carbs.

Do you like yogurt? The plain, unflavored Fage Greek yogurt is made with only milk and yeast cultures--no additives--and has 23g protein (yes, as much as my protein powder!) and 9g carbs (because of the natural lactose in dairy). That's a ton of protein from a "real" food. Naturally, flavored versions have different counts. It is the highest protein Greek yogurt I've found. You can flavor it with fruit, sweeteners (if wanted) yourself and know you aren't adding in weird chemicals.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
