One Door Closes, Another Opens

Started this journey in September 2015 and after jumping through all the hoops, I just got my surgery date yesterday - March 28, 2016. After waiting so long now I have to rush and get all pre-op testing done, get pre-op certification from PCP, go to pre-op class AND follow a 2 week pre-op Protein diet to shrink my liver. Whew ... I'm tired already! After the surgery, then the REAL work begins ...

Awesome !!!!!

The real work actually begins now.....following the pre-op diet.

Things are fairly simple and easy after the surgery.....just eat what you are supposed to in the manner you are supposed to. No more....no less. Very simple. No hunger. No real work. Stay on track and enjoy your results.

It's a real sprint to get everything done, isn't it? I four weeks between surgeon appts. to get labs, visits to two specialists, an UGI, and EGD, a sleep study, a preop visit to my PCP, and get a CPAP. I was so relieved to get it all done on time. It was during the holidays, so that squeezed things even tighter. You'll feel a real sense of accomplishment when you're done and all ready. And that's a great way to start your postop journey, no?

@@FluffyWW, you have much to do, but think how good the timing is. You'll be so nicely shorn of fluff in time for summer.

Your surgeon is at Montefiore? I'll be posting the next Greater New York Bariatric Surgery Clothing Exchange info in a few minutes. Watch for it in the lists of topics screen right. You certainly will be welcomed if you're free. I hope you'll also be notified at your surgery practice, as some Montefiore bariatric staff are on my contact list.

Welcome to BP. It's a great place for support. Fun, too.

I agree with dub most of the work starts before surgery. Post op has its challenges as well, but I would suggest preparing yourself in a few different ways. The biggest work I did was mentally preparing my self not only for the pre op diet, surgery day, but after surgery as well. Do plenty of research and know what to expect in the hospital/when you get home. Everyone is different, but hungry doesn't always hit for awhile after surgery. You're going to do great will all pre op and post op obstacles. We're all here for support!

Because of the hoops I had to go through with my insurance, I officially began the journey Dec 2015. I was really bummed out that my insurance wanted me to do a 6 month supervised diet. I'm one full month in and I see that it is the best thing for me. At my appointment in February I was told I lost 5 pounds. My thinking has changed completely but I still have cravings for the junk that got me in this situation. When I go later this month I want to be down another 5 pounds. I just have to be careful not to go under the BMI for my insurance.

Good luck on your journey!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
