Eeek! I just heard my surgeon @ mayo Clinic will require 2 weeks of OptiFast.. however, because I've lost 12 lbs since January, I may not have to. He's going to manually check my liver to see if he thinks it's necessary. Crossing fingers!

My surgeon said my liver was fine based on a manual check and I'm more bottom heavy than abdominal heavy. I was put on a 14 day preop due to my bmi of 57. I have lost about 30lbs. Hopefully you don't have to do it. ...
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've been on the preop liquid diet on day 11 and have lost only about 8.2 lbs. I'm proud for those that's dropping large numbers but begging for advice. My surgery is March 15th.

@@linda71730, you are not doing anything wrong. I think the heavier you are, the more weight you lose. And keep in mind, even a small drop in weight like 5lbs will result in a successful surgery outcome.

Before I did the pre-op diet, my surgeon put me on a two week metabolic reset diet. I ate tons of fruit and veggies, no grains/processed foods/processed sugar/high fat, 2 servings of animal Protein, and 1 serving of vegetable Protein. Now I'm on Clear Liquids. You will do just fine.

@@linda71730 I agree with what @@Donegirl4life said, it has a lot to do with how much you have to lose. Someone who has 200 pounds to lose will drop those first pounds a lot quicker than someone who has 75 pounds to lose. Also, if you have been on a diet for any number of weeks/months prior to this, you will also not lose as fast as if you haven't dieted at all prior.

You aren't doing anything wrong. In fact you are losing 3/4 of a pounds per day! That would work out to over 22 pounds in a month. That sounds fantastic to me.

I'm absolutely sure that 8.2 pounds will help tremendously for your surgery.

8 lbs seems like a great job!

I lost 12 lbs slowly working with my nutritionist unrelated to the surgery. I originally was against surgery but I came around ;)

@@Iscarelys - Ahhh! Best of luck to you! :)

Surgery is next Wednesday and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. I feel like I'm worried more about my significant other after surgery than I am about myself. I had my nutritionist appointment, who gave me a booklet that laid EVERYTHING out for the next 3-4 months, so I have a great grasp of what to expect. He's having the whole "Well, I'm going to feel guilty eating around you" thing, which I know is something he's going to have to work through. Idk if anyone has had the same thing.

Hi everyone!

I have been following this post for about a week anxiously waiting for my chance to announce my surgery date which is scheduled for March 18th pending approval and I don't know how to feel or what to do about my situation. Should I start preparing myself for surgery or just wait?

I am so afraid that I will be denied.

Has this happened to anyone else?

How is everyone doing? I'm 4days post op and wanted to share some things. I got discharged 2 days after the surgery. It felt so good to sleep on my own bed without any one coming in and out of my room waking me every 2 hours to check my vitals coz I had a fever of 101.4 but it eventually broke. after passing the drinking challenge I was sent home . I'm ok. I move around fine , I just can't sit straight. In fact everyone keeps telling me I don't look like I just had a major surgery which is good!! Now the hard part is keeping myself hydrated and drinking my Protein. I can feel every sip going down my throat and my stomach and it hurts! So now , i take my pain meds before and try to finish my protein intake within that 4hours while I'm numb. I'm seeing my surgeon in a week . Not sure if I should call him to talk to him about this or is this going to go away soon ? Anyone experiencing this yet ?

Also I haven't had any bowel movement yet ! Should I be worried?

FYI I'm down 8lbs

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
