PTSD or Compulsive Eating Disorder Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

@@Mega_100 - during the prework for surgery, we had to meet with a therapist. From this list I found my therapist. I really feel you need someone who is aware of the surgery and its outcomes.

I agree, having someone familiar with eating issues and bariatric surgery would be ideal. I really liked the doc I went to pre-op for the psych eval, but she isn't in-network unfortunately and finances are definitely a factor.

Mega 100, If you have insurance, you want to stay in network. When there is not a financial issue, it will be much easier to go as long as you need. I made inquires to a few different therapist. Don't settle for one that you are not comfortable with. I have talked to therapist in the past that made me feel worse about myself. That is not what anyone needs. I opted for a therapist that specialized in eating disorder and trauma. I also wanted a female as many of my issues are difficult to talk about in the first place. Good Luck

You're right. I think if there was a huge financial strain, it would really distract me and make me uncomfortable. I've known since I was very young that I needed therapy, but have ignored it bc I didn't want to deal with my issues. This opportunity has really made me want to focus on the positive experience and depression and compulsive eating is getting in the way.

@@Mega_100 - I started with a provider from my insurance too. Unfortunately, I found them giving me wrong information according to my surgeon so that was concerning to me. I talked to my therapist and we do a payment plan that works for me and my finances. Don't be afraid to ask them to get started. For instance, my therapist has a monthly support group too... and that is on 15$ a session....and its crazy helpful.

Good to know there might be more options out there, thanks :)

I was the PTSD poster girl for most of my life. Before surgery o spent years getting emdr and using eft and other healing modalities which made it possible for me to digest decades of former experiences. I had my surgery a couple of months ago and Bc I'm so well equipped to process my emotions, I really didn't grieve the change in my lifestyle once complete. I was ready.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
