Vacation sucks

Recommended Posts

Well when you LIVE in a rural region there is almost no place you can fly to without taking 3 flights. And at this point I'd love to be arrested. At least they serve food in jail.

No jail for me. There is no way in hell I would want the nuts the stewards were offering me. :)

I hate vacation simply because it costs me money to travel, but I miss out on hundreds of dollars in OT opportunities.

It hadn't occurred to me that you might live in a rural area, therefore, I'm more provincial than I knew.

I was at the mercy of the airport police (a regular of that city's police dept.) for an hour or two, no jail involved, unless you count having one of the police stand outside the loo while I used it. This occurred 12 years before my surgery. I'd be more careful now, as I doubt that a jail provides WLS-suitable vittles/victuals. More to the point, I'd be more careful now, post-2001.

Have you reached your destination yet? I hope your vacation turns out to be excellent after its wretched start.

Ah......getaway travel nightmares.

I'll say this......It's all worth it once you get there on some vacations.

I've got a leisure trip planned that would have me chewing through a chain link fence to get to.......bust through a rock wall and crush skulls to arrive at. In the words of the awesome Mr. T....."I pity the fool who try ta stop me....I'll bring them pain ".

I'm flying in April by myself for the first time. I made sure my connecting flights were spaced out but I hate to sit bored too long also.

Whether this will be your first flight or first solo flight, it doesn't have to be boring at all. The journey is as much the experience as is the destination itself. Talk to people when you see that you won't be intrusive. Explore the airport, watch flights taking off and landing, talk to more people as you encounter them. One of the best times I had was on a train from Frankfurt to Vienna. The conversations I had with a couple of the passengers in my compartment made for an exhilarating start to a two-week stay.

That's why sometimes, I just prefer "staycations".

There's lots of things to do around Boise and Idaho that I can do and not deal with the hassle of air travel or being too far away from home!

Doing things close to home satisfies a lot of people. I've tried it, but, as vacation from work, it was a bust. Without a change of scenery and experiences, I went back to work feeling as though I'd had no vacation at all. I need the change, even if it is for only part of the time I take off, to feel refreshed.

I remember when flying used to be a real pleasure. It has sucked since 9/11 and only got worse after the recession.

I miss the days when people dressed in a civilized fashion to get on a plan. Come to think of it, most people looked civilized at least most of the time.

Are you really going to leave it there? Do you always pitch and then turn away before seeing whether the pitch has been caught? Where are you going?!!! I'm no dentist, but....

I have now been sitting on this plane in the same spot for 8 hours. The last 3 hours just waiting for fuel. My ankles are swollen bigger than my head and I'm pretty sure I'm now engaged to the cute guy and his girlfriend sitting next to me.

The flight attendant promised us free drinks if we EVER take off.

DELTA AND JFK GROUND CREW SUCK.

Can't say. Won't say. I'm sorta in Her Majesty's Secret Service type of thing.......I could tell ya....but then I'd sworn to uphold the code.........007 stuff.

Suffice to say it's gonna be a destination of sun, fun, Water, rum drinks and tequila shots while watching scantily clad beauty parade around and laugh at the pale big guy in the boots 'n swim trunks tipping his hat. Those boots and that cowboy hat may be the only possessions I retain as I may decide to never come back.

Who needs or wants the pressures of a job.....and the day to day drama? Not me. I pity the fool who gets in my way. Boots, hat and a handful of Protein bars and I'm out.

Lawd.....I hope they either have Starbucks or Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee in that part of the world...............gotta maintain my addictions.

In ALL my years of heavy domestic and international biz and for-fun travel, I have NEVER sat on a parked plane for 8 hours.

That's insane.

Really.

They should be passing out heroin, not alcohol.

I have to be thousands of miles away and turn my phone off or clients literally expect me to show up. Leaving the message "We are not available" means nothing to them.

Cruel and unusual punishment. Haven't the passengers revolted and demanded a rolling stairway? The last time people were held captive for an inordinate period out of stupidity changes were supposed to occur. Screw the flight attendants and liberate the store of stupid little liquor bottles. (I'll get you arrested.)

I can be there in half an hour and at least make funny faces from the ground for your entertainment.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
