Recommendations for a good Probiotic?

Recommended Posts

Looking for suggestions on a good high quality probiotic. I'm not having any issues, but from what I have read it can certainly be beneficial to a post WLS patient like me.

A doctor recommended I take a probiotic called BACID. It's a bit pricey, about $33.00 for 100 tablets and you have to take 2 a day. I'm not sure why but Walmart doesn't keep it on the shelf with the rest of the Probiotics (maybe because of the cost). They keep it behind the counter at the pharmacy and I have to ask for it. However, you can order it from Amazon. You can go on there and check out the reviews. I've used it for years and it has helped me.

I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and bought a 200 billion probiotic....it is refrigerated...any of the 50 billion and up will work.I open up the capsule and drop it in a teaspoon of Greek yogurt.I also bought acidophilus from Amazon.Tastes like spoiled yogurt.

Generally when you undergo surgery, you may be given antibiotics to protect you from the various germs in the hospital that might infect you. But these antibiotics kill not only the bad germs but also the good ones. Therefore when you leave the hospital it is important to reestablish the good bacteria in your gut. Many times after surgery you might experience diarrhea because of a lack of good bacteria in your gut. This is where Probiotics come in.

There are a variety of probiotics. They vary in a few different ways. They are the number of different strains of good bacteria and the number of live bacteria cells per culture. The probiotic that I used had 10 friendly strains and 4 billion live bacteria cells per capsule [CFU]. It worked for me but you can find others with more strains and more CFUs.

I take probiotics daily. It really helps to keep your gut bacteria healthy. Surgery, antibiotics, the large amounts of sugar free products all wreck the natural balance of our flora and fauna. I get mine at Sprouts Markets. I get the Quattro and it runs about $45 a bottle I think. It's in the refrigerated section. I wouldn't trust a probiotic that wasn't refrigerated.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
