Doctor Hornbostel says no!!

Recommended Posts

Ok I need to give a brief intro first...I had my consult with Dr. Philip Hornbostel in MO July of 2006 and my first appt. was supposed to be Oct. 24, 2006. My father became ill with lung cancer and subsequently passed away during that time so, suffice to say, I did not go to my appt. I talked with Dr. Hornbostel's office staff this morning and they said they quit the Lapband because THEIR patients gained all the weight back plus some! She even went on to give me examples of two clients who were banded two years ago and after initial weightloss are now heavier! :faint:

This can not be reality for everyone! I have seen losers on here that are 3 and 4 years out that are as skinny as ever! If you follow the program you should not regain it! Anyway, they offered to schedule me for gastric bypass. No offense to anyone, but I want the BAND NOT BYPASS! I know the bypass is great and lots of you have done super, but it is not for me.

So, now what??? He only does bypass. I don't want bypass........I am a Medicare patient so it has to be at a Center of Excellence and he is the only one I know. Can anyone give me any info?? I am flabbergasted! I am willing to travel for my surgery, so if you know of a Medicare approved in your area, please do not hesitate to let me know!

I am so disappointed! :think

Is there only one physician in your area that does lap band??? Lap band surgery is very popular among most surgeons because its easy money for them. It's a simple procedure that many many surgeons are starting to do more and more.

Screw him and his gastric bypass...call your insurance company and ask them what other centers of expertise are in your area..believe me, you will be surprised at how many there are.

Or, forget insurance and go to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico...you will probably pay about the same when you consider the copay and deductible and all that..I dont know what kind of plan you have..but my Blue Cross would only pay 60%..so by going to Mexico...I saved a lot of money, and more importantly, TIME, since they schedule you very soon in the near future.

If you insist on going with your insurance....it shouldnt be too hard to find another surgeon in your area. Or ask your "anti lap band" doctor to refer you to someone who is more willing to give you the band.

I agree, I call Dr. Zapata in Mexico, who's done over 7000 of these and in 2 weeks was having my surgery. Total cost for absolutely everything including travel, food, hotel stay, all hospital costs, and free fills for life, 7500.00.

My insurance won't pay so I am seriously considering going to Tiajuana Mexico but I am scared. Can anyone reccommend a doc in Tiajuana? I can drive there in 4 hours. I would rather hear from someone who had a complication and was happy with the doctor. Any doctor is good as long as nothing goes wrong.

Hi, I was banded in Mexico on July 31. It went really well; the toughest part was the language barrier, but my hubby and I bought a Spanish-English dictionary and had fun with it. I would HIGHLY recommend my doctor, Dr. Salvatore Valencia. He has taught at UCLA and has an excellent medical ethic. My anesthesiologist came by twice, before and after: Dr. V and I talked twice before surgery, and he came by 3 times afterward. I picked him partly because he doesn't seem to spend all his money on advertising. He prefers word of mouth. Good luck with whomever you choose. Jan

check out dr. Rodriquez. I am going to use him - he has you fly into San AntonioTexas and they put you up at the La Quinta Inn the day before your surgery and drive you into Mexico have the surgery, stay in the hospital for the night and then drive you back to the hotel for another night stay. I live in Va - where do you live? tara

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
