January 8 is the day!

Recommended Posts

I'm 35, 6' tall, and weigh 380. I've been overweight my whole life. This past year or so has been rough. I received diagnoses of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and I'm on meds for the blood pressure and the diabetes. There's been a few cases of heart disease in my family, so this kind of scared me. I've struggled to maintain a healthier lifestyle before, and slip into old habits slowly over time. I'm ready for a drastic change in my life, and I feel like this is the best way to achieve that.

I imagine it's because of the diagnoses I received this year, but getting covered by my insurance and getting a date set with my surgeon, Dr. Veninga in Carrollton, TX, took maybe a month. Some of this was just because of everyone rushing to get things done before the end of the year.

I visit the hospital tomorrow for some preliminary stuff, like an endoscopy, and then surgery on Friday.

Everyone's mileage varies. I'd be happy to lose a hundred pounds, but I hope that I'll be able to push it further than that.

I'll report back soon, if anyone is curious how it goes. If there's anyone out there that had a similar build prior to surgery, I'd be curious to hear about your progress and experience.

Wish me luck!

I had my EKG and endoscopy today. I was mainly nervous about the EKG and maybe the chest xrays. I was afraid of them finding something weird, but everything was normal. I was a little worried about how bad an IV was going to hurt (it didn't), or whether I'd have a weird reaction to anesthesia (I didn't).

I'm not nervous at all anymore. Is it weird to actually be looking forward to surgery?

I'm excited because this will help me make the changes I know I need in my life. I've already made some changes to my diet and my level of exercise, but everything combined is going to give me such a good chance to finally keep the weight off this time that I can't help but be excited.

I can't wait to fit in smaller jeans, or smaller shirts, and to not worry if I'm going to fit in a booth at a restaurant.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
