Any 12/21/15 sleevers: How are you doing?

I had my sleeve gastrectomy 12/21. I had pain initially when I got home after discharge and meds from hospital wore off. Then found out that my pharmacy who told the discharge nurse they had my pain meds didn't have them nor did any other local pharmacies. Didn't get pain meds until next morning at the hospital pharmacy. Luckily I have not had such intense pain as I had had the day of discharge from the hospital.

My biggest issues are swelling and bloating in my midsection and pain like strong muscle spasms when I take in liquids at times. I could hardly drink 32oz of Water yesterday due to bloating. I think I must be having a lot of swelling. I didn't push it and just took in what I could. My taste is different. ..jello takes stronger in flavor and smells are getting to me. I definitely learned not to swallow a piece of sugar-free popsicle ...oh my did that hurt and bring on the worst muscle spasm!

Anyways, just curious what other people about 5 days post-op like me are doing. Christmas was hard with all the food around and feeling like liquids were my options. But I made it through.

Best wishes :-) on this new and challenging period of recovery and change!

I had my surgery on 12/21, I came home 12/23. To say I am stubborn would be an understatement, therefore I never pushed the pump but once. I was up walking as soon as they would let me out of bed, pushing myself as far as I could go. Setting my alarm to make sure I was working my liquids etc. My shoulder pain ended up moving to my chest and making it very difficult to breath about 3AM. The nurse turned off my alarm and handed me pain pills and said trust us we know what we are doing. She was the best thing that could have happened to me. Heat made a huge difference with the gas pains and even though the doctor kept me an extra night it was worth it. I went home feeling great, I only have had to use the pain meds at night. Now let's talk the liquid diet, I can get a Protein shake and a protein hot chocolate down. I cannot stand chicken broth in any form, never had that problem. I can eat Jello but everything is just so sweet. I finally tried tomato Soup and liked it. Tomorrow I'm going to try yogurt and sugar free pudding. I am really looking forward to soft foods starting next Monday after my check. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital that was fluids and that has been off after about 3 days. I am so thankful for my Dr and nurses who helped me understand that I could be driven and not be in pain.

I have one that has Protein in it the nutritionist recommended and I have regular sugar free as well. The heat is a nice change from the shakes.

I'm on full liquids. Is sugar free hot chocolate a good idea or bad idea?

Please share the name

Of it!

Health wise hot chocolate. There is also soup and other things with increased Protein.

I had my one week follow up appointment today and they removed my drain. They said to stay on liquids until Thursday and on Friday I can start puree food. I'm so excited for that! I'm down 13 pounds. :) So far so good.

I don't really have a puree section in my diet. What exactly are you pureeing? Do you just take a whole small meal and blend it? I can have cream soups (like cream of mushroom), which pretty much pureed.

In my plan, purée allows soft scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, hummus, purees soups (bean, etc), refried beans thinned with broth, pureed tuna, chicken, other meats, mashed potatoes, etc.

I had my sleeve surgery on December 22, 2015. Right now, it hurts when I swallow liquid. I can only take in 3 oz at a time, and I am having trouble meeting the minimum requirement of 32 oz per day. I was given Hycel as a pain medicine to use at home. I only used it the first day back from the hospital, as it made me sick.

I've noticed that I swallow a lot of air when I swallow liquid. It helps me to stand up or just reposition and I'm able to belch and it doesn't hurt to swallow.

Finally had 2oz of hummus, and it was amazing. I bought some Musclepharm combat Protein Powder Cookies and cream shake and mixed 1/2 scoop with a cup of decaf instant coffee, it was like having a Starbucks coffee. Tomorrow is my post surgery education meeting and I get to know what I can finally eat.

Down 15 lbs since surgery on the 21st. Glad the scale is finally moving in the right direction.

Also, first day with hardly any pain, I could even lay on my stomach. I finally am feeling more like myself just a little lighter. So far day 8 is the best.

I could not drink out of the tiny cups, I got too much air so I switched to a regular bottle.

I agree, drinking water out of those tiny cups made me swallow air and I had to burp up the air each sip I took. It was very painful. They brought me a larger water bottle finally and that made a huge difference.

Regressing? I've been feeling great and doing a lot of things around the house and going for long walks and last night I ended up with some pain in my left side (no where near an incision) and was seeing spots thought I was going to pass out I was so weak!! I'm getting in my 60g of protein and 100oz water a day. Felt better most of the day but still not as good as I did and I've got a low grade fever of 100.2. Think I just over extended myself the last 2 days???

I am a 12-21 sleever and having some of the same issues. I am also very itchy around my incisions. Have my post op appointment tomorrow. Hang in there everyone! I'm down 35lbs since my liquid diet started 12-7

I had my surgery the 21st. i had frequent spasm pain but could push through it. it was painful and would almost take my breath away. but i kept moving and walking and the spasms are gone now and I'm on day 8 post op.
the hardest thing now is getting my 64 oz in each day. i do up to 2 of the 11 oz Premier Nutrition High Protein shakes so i can get my 60 grams of protein. i get 1/2 cup of cream Soup. but i really struggle to get Water in...I need it because it makes going to the bathroom very challenging now.
and the last couple of days, my cravings have been trying to take me down. the cravings make me feel like it is impossible to ignore or fight. but i know its not hunger. i go suck on a sugarless popcicle. i put crystal lite in my water. but i still have yearnings. i try to keep busy and away from the other 3-4 people in the house eating everything i wish i could. and the commercials! every mcdonalds and pizza commercial making my cause worse.
but i will push. i have already lost over 20 lbs since 12/7 so imagine?! imagine what comes next. I just have to keep my eye on the ball. and after this week, i'll expand my exercise regimen. not only for physical health, but for emotional and mental health. i NEED it!!
