pre-surgery nerves 4 days out

Recommended Posts

I am in the short rows now, surgery is four days away (Monday Dec 28). I went for pre-op testing and appointment with the surgeon Wednesday morning, and it really has set in now, that this is going to happen. I am super excited, but I must admit, the pre-surgery jitters have me. Its nothing new, the nerves always get me before any surgery. Lordy Lordy

What a fantastic New Years present to yourself :)

It’s normal to be nervous before the surgery, I think we all go through the questioning in our heads.

Is this right for me? Will it be painful? How am I going to cope with so little food in the first few months? And on and on. However we all get through it and I can honestly say that it’s been one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. Believe in yourself and your inner strength, you CAN do it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

My surgery is on Tuesday, the 29th and I've been thinking about everything lately too. I'm "nesting", like I'm about to have a baby. I've cleaned my fridge, cleaned and organized my pantry, medicine cabinet, and super cleaned my house. I'm having a hard time sleeping at night too. It's like the night before the first day of school...nervous, but super excited ????

My surgery is Jan 4 and I'm doing the pre-op diet now. I'm on day 4 of 14. It's pretty damn tough. Especially since it's the holidays and we have movie plans and get togethers. I want a little bit of movie theater popcorn so bad!

But congrats to you! I am very excited for you. I am starting to get the jitters and second-guessing my decision right now. But I know in my heart it's the best decision for me. Hang in there! Can't wait to hear about your results post-op!

Thanks everyone, I needed the pep talk badly! I have done everything I know to occupy my mind, so that I am not thinking about surgery every waking minute. It wouldn't matter if it was a different surgery really, I just have a fear of anesthesia mostly. Every surgery I have had, I stress about it in the days prior. UGH!

This process to me, has been a LOT of work. I didn't start the process until mid October, and it was a whirlwind of the classes, appointments, all the requirements for insurance, etc. It was difficult trying to pack into a couple of months, what usually takes about six months, but it worked out. Everything went so well that it is scary! It was almost like it was meant to be, and a power greater than myself was guiding me. My patient coordinator told me yesterday, that in her 8 years as a patient coordinator, she has never had anyone complete the requirements in just 2 months. I couldn't have done it without her, and the other staff there. They have been just wonderful, a real pleasure to work with. I have never been to a doctors office or medical facility that runs as smoothly, and been so easy to deal with, as them. When they give you an appointment time, they stick to it. I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes past a given appointment, and they are always very nice and personable. Cannot say enough about the Bariatrics staff at Memorial Medical University hospital in Savannah, GA.

I will update after surgery Monday! Jembell and toshbosh, best of luck to you both, as well! This is so exciting, and I am so thankful that I can chat with others who have been through this, or are about to have surgery! This forum is so much help!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I actually started my liquid diet on December 7th, because I and my patient navigator were hopeful that my insurance would approve before end of the year, and there was a chance that my surgery would be either the week of Christmas or the week after. As it turns out, it ended up being scheduled for the 28th. I have been on liquids for an extra week, which has not been easy at all! The first few days were awful, with headaches, and wanting food. It has become easier, but I still have my moments. I am down 19 pounds from my start weight. My surgeon said last Wednesday, that my extra week will be beneficial to him, making it even easier to get to the stomach, and he told me he was proud of my determination, and said I have a good head start on my weight loss.

Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey, and prayers for you on the 4th! My nerves have been overbearing the past few nights, worrying about my surgery on Monday.

I hope everyone who has commented on my thread, will stay in touch, and let me know how your surgeries went!

Let's see... I was blessed (or maybe not) with only having to do a 1 day liquid diet before surgery. I thought,,, one day, that's no big deal!! A whole lot better than 2 weeks like some are having to do from what I've read on here. Boy, was I wrong!! Every Sunday after church our family always goes to dinner together as a tradition. Well, today being my liquid day, we decided it best to let them get something and bring it home so I didn't have to sit and smell the food or watch everyone eat. Well,,, my nose must be that of a hound dog today because I can still smell it!! I'm happy they thought enough of me to break our tradition and I'm doing my best to keep a positive attitude but this is hard y'all!! I hope it's true that it's not this hard after surgery but I will cross that bridge when I get to it!! I've made it this far and I'm not giving in now!! Ok, I put my feelings out there and I kind of feel better :) #NotBlowingMySecondChance

You are so lucky to only have to do a one day liquid diet! I had to skip every Christmas gathering this year, because they are all heavily centered around food. Better to just skip them, than fight the urge to sneak a bite!

Tomorrow is our day, I am about to sign off and try to get to sleep early tonight. (I suspect that sleep will elude me tonight though). Good luck and best wishes tomorrow and during recovery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
