8 weeks post op and have only lost 25 pounds!

Recommended Posts

I got on the scale today and was two pounds heavier than Monday which is when I usually weigh myself. I'm pmsing and felt really bloated so checked my weight.

I've made some mistakes but for the most part have maintained a fairly decent diet. Why am I not losing more weight? I read that some have lost 35 in their first month.

Could this mean my surgery isn't working or that I'm doing something wrong? I've cheated a few times but nothing major.

Starting: 259

Day of Surgery: 253

Today: 227

Yep, it could mean all of those things...
Or it could mean none of them...

You've gotta stop comparing your rate of loss to others...

You've lost 25 pounds in two months...

10% of your body weight...

There's nothing wrong with that...

At that rate, you'll lose 150 pounds in a year...

If you keep up your Protein, keep up your Water and stop stressing about not losing weight, you'll lose weight...

I do note, however, that you use such words as "mistakes", "fairly decent" and "cheated"...

The more of these words that we can eliminate from our sleeved lives, the more weight we SHOULD lose...

My opinion (and it's only my opinion) is that you're doing fine...

Relax, keep on top of the right things and your time will come...

You are fine, do not compare yourself to others and do not cheat on yourself. Get in your Protein and fluids & exercise.

step away

First, con't compare yourself to others. Second - be honest with yourself. Are you writing down your intake, and yes, we mean every. single. bite. Unless you are tracking your intake, your "nothing major" may end up being something quite different. Are you exercising at all? Focusing on proten first, veggies second? Are you getting enough Fluid? Take a good look at what you're really doing, not what you guess you may be doing. You may find some answers there.

Good luck!

Stop weighting yourself daily.. it will mess with you more than help you. Stick with "naked early Monday morning weigh ins post pee".... after a few weeks of breaking the scale habbit, you will never look back at the agonizing daily scaling.

Like everyone else said....quit comparing with others and stop cheating. If you follow the program you won't have to weigh to know you are losing. Track NSVs instead of numbers. They are more important anyways.

Celebrate what you have accomplished, don't get caught up in the WLS race. You have the rest if your life to get where you want to be. It's not gonna happen in a few months. I had "only" lost 17 pounds at 12 weeks out (that was only the 6th time I had weighed myself postop) and I was thrilled. In the end, I lost over 100% of my excess weight, and the scale had nothing to do with it.

If you were prementrual that can add a few pounds of Fluid retention. There are many good responses here for you. I am 3 months post-op. One of my suppot buddies reminds me to check out how my clothes are hanging off me and my empty closet as I remove the clothing that is too big. I'm sure there are many of us who had those smaller sizes we were wishing someday to fit back into. Well guess what soon you will be donating those clothes too! Stay focused on following your nutrition and fluids needs not on the scale. You will be successful if you follow uour plan. Remove "cheating" from your vocabulary!

Hi cal2okl - I know what everyone says about being patient, but it is a bit frustrating. I am 6 weeks post-op and I have lost 26 lbs. I am thrilled about my weight loss, but heck, I was on full liquids for all but the last 3 days. Just started eating solid food on Friday. It just seems like the scale should be moving a little more. OBTW my surgery day weight was 221 lbs and I have not cheated at all.

I saw my Dr. today and he said I am on track and the same as all the experts...be patient, follow the eating plan and the weight will come off. So that is what I am going to do.

Good luck to you. I am certain that you will be successful!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
