Two Weeks Post-Op / Full Liquid Blues

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op - which means it has been over two weeks since I have had any solid food. My doctor has me on full liquids for 3 weeks post-op which means I have another week before I can start the pureed phase. LOL - I realized that the highlight of my day is eating my chewable Vitamin twice a day! I am counting the days before I can "eat" and not "drink" my meals.

Speaking of liquid diet - I have also realized the lack of chewing anything quickly leaves a film on my teeth and I find that I am brushing my teeth three or four times a day (I'm a neat freak about my teeth anyway) but all those Protein Drinks, Soups, etc. really seem to build up a film quickly.

And my last liquid diet blues rant....I never realized how many damn TV commercials there were for pizza, fast-food, and chain restaurants until the last few days. Ughhh! :-)

Right there with you! I had two weeks liquid pre-op and I'm two weeks post-op liquids now--one more week to go for a grand total of FIVE WEEKS on liquids!

I hear ya with the filmy teeth. It's driving me crazy, too. That, and I can't stand the taste of Water anymore, so I'm drinking all these fluids with fake sugars in them that make my filmy teeth worse :(

I am trying to prep for phase three, finding recipes and getting ideas, etc., but it makes me kind of miserable looking at actual food!

Here's to one more week and looking forward to a thinner, healthier future! Cheers! *raises Protein shake*

I absolutely hate this phase. I had a lap band put in 6 years ago and had to go through this once before. It is easily the worst part. My lap band failed to help me lose weight, or maybe I failed it. Regardless, it didn't work and I am putting all my hope and tons of effort to get the sleeve to work. I am finding the taste and feeling of my tongue absolutely unbearable. What I would do right now to hear my teeth crunch on some lettuce.

I've been watching much more television than normal while healing up from the sleeve & hernia repair.

I can saw with absolute certainty that many days the only thing that reminds me to have a Protein shake is one of the never-ending high def food commercials.

I agree. This part is rough. I've developed an extreme hatred of Isopure. Luckily I bought many types of clear Protein ahead of time.

These sips are so difficult. I'm praying to get in 30oz. The goal is 60 but that seems impossible.

nectar grab N go or Nectar fruitilious. Or crystal light pure with Unjury unsweetened in it. The nurse said I could switch to regular Protein Shakes now. I like the Premier Protein ones.

What is two weeks out like?

Probably from dehydration. I've been brushing my teeth a lot.

Finally found a Water flavoring that I like--crystal light raspberry lemonade. All others have a burning, faux sugar taste to me.

Hey BrianinStPete - You should feel a little lucky…I was sleeved on Oct 12th and my Dr. is super conservative and since surgery, I was on Clear liquids for 4 days and I will be on full liquids for just over 5 weeks. My first day of food is Nov 20th. I am very tired of drinking my food!

I agree I also have a nasty film on my teeth, I can't stand it either.

Tomorrow is one week and what I wouldn't give for a piece of toast! Ha! And I couldn't agree more with the food commercials! We DVR a lot of programs, so we can typically skip through them, but with recovery...live tv it is. Lastly, I am a Registered Dental Hygienist and you are all correct about the film on the teeth. It is super important to keep them brushed due to no help from mechanical chewing. My mouth is horrible!! Looking for light at the end of the tunnel!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
