Did hit the gym a few times during last week's cruise.

There you go, going full beast mode! Take care of that rotator cuff; believe me, surgery on that is painful.

Hey guys I got sleeves 3-22 and I'm now 3 weeks post op. I have been walking but want to start lifting and getting back into the gym. When did some of you get back in the swing of things.?

I didn't start lifting weights until about 7/8 months post op when I could eat beef again. Right now just focus on getting your fluids in, Protein and walking. You'll need a good 6 to 8 weeks just for the incisions to heal up properly before you can do more advanced stuff.

For me.....it was around 11 weeks.

The long delay was due to having a simultaneous umbilical hernia repair, my third on that location, at the time of my VSG surgery.

The sleeve was a cake walk to recover from........the hernia took 3 weeks before I returned to work.

Did hit the gym a few times during last week's cruise.

Thanks, Bro.

Far from full beast mode.....but there is hope that one day I will be.

I used to have a goal for a 500 lb bench press by age 50.

Now.......I just want to be able to rip off a 5K race at a moment's notice by age 50.

I'm under no illusions that I'll be a gym warrior........but being able to please my woman at anytime day or night is my main goal........and do this until she & I are in our nursing home days.......that's really all that matters to me.

That and being a dude that maintains her trust at all times.

Simple dude with simple passions.

I had some minor complications after my surgery, but I went back to the gym at about 6 weeks. It was pitiful. I was getting maybe 400 calories a day. I was literally curling 15 lbs and getting exhausted. I was a winded mess after 10 minutes. But I stuck with it. I am fortunate that the people that work at the gym I go to are very encouraging and every day that I came back they applauded my effort.

Hell, the weight coach wanted me to do an interview on my transformation, but I told him I just wasn't comfortable with that.

Sorry, I am rambling; my point is this. You are going to be weak. You will be shaky too. Just be aware that you won't be the beast in the gym just yet. Slow and steady is what will win this race. You are not training for a competition, you are establishing lifestyle habits. There is a difference! Don't try and get huge muscle gains, just get healthy!

My first year goal was to reach weight loss goal. I never made one for a bench or squat or anything. My year two goal is to be able to do 1 honest to god pull-up. I have never done one in my life. Not even as a kid. I think that would be the biggest accomplishment with the most meaning to me!

Soon Dub... soon, and before you know it it'll be here.

500?! DAMN! lol, my shoulder came apart at 250, I can't imagine what would happen at 500! I cannot stress enough, take care of that shoulder! I wish I could put into words the excruciating pain that recovery was. I like to think of myself as a man with a high threshold for pain. During the 8 week recovery, I was stoned off my ass for the first 4. Seriously, barely remember anything except for the pain and how much coffee I drank to try and clear some of the haze from my foggy head.

I hear ya, bro.

I've been awared about the pains post-op that are inherent with this surgery.

I'm a veteran of more than a few surgical repairs......most from being a dumbass and pushing things too far during playtimes.

The source of this shoulder injury is no different.

Dumb goal.

Dumb execution of said motivation.

Much more refined goals now.........directed mostly by a coach that has been keeping me on track with many issues.

The only thing that I really worry about in regards to this surgery are: what will my employer do in retaliation-reaction to my recovery period and what will my woman do about my inability to fully perform certain functions in certain ways.

The clear solutions are to seek legal aid with the former.........and a more understanding woman with the latter. lol.

All will work out in time, I suppose. Just stuff that this brotha has to get done to get back to living fully.

Pull up? Wow I remember when I was in like 5 or 6th grade I tried to do a pull up. I got one in and when I tried to do the second one, the bar broke and all the kids in the gym laughed at me. It was at that point I tried my hardest to avoid gym class in school and never attempted to do a pull up again. I know I am still not ready to do one yet. Physically I might be ready, but the mental scars from that episode almost 22 years ago still hurt as if this happened yesterday.

I wrestled all though junior high and high-school and I was always the big kid. SR year i was varsity heavyweight but I only weighed 205 and looked good. I was able to do pull-ups and everything. Now post surgery after 5 weeks I'm down to 280 from 320 pre-liquid diet. I look forward to doing pull-ups again and getting back into coaching

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
