I have finally got my date! :whoo: September 14th is when I am scheduled to be banded. Is there anybody else going to Dr. Gonzalez on that day? I finally got all my ducks in a row. I am hoping that this will be the beginning of new life for me. Thanks to all who have given advice and their opinions regarding Dr. Gonzalez. It has taken the frustration out of trying to find the "right one" and Dr. Valenzuela tipped the scales for me with his patience and kindness. Dr. Gonzalez should be happy to have him on his team.

I would love to hear from others who might be going down around this time. I have to be there on the 13th and then I will have the surgery on the 14th. Good luck to all.

Thank you B A Loser! I am very excited and I can't wait to have this done. As far as fills go, I probably won't be going back to Mexico.....I live on the east coast, so unless they are having flights for a super low price, it wouldn't benefit me to go all the way back down there. Good luck next week and please keep us posted on your progress.

Helllo alll,

I am a bit depressed now, my friends are trying to talk me out of this surgery ! I am a lower BMI so they keep saying I dont need it ..

"just do this or try that " ! ughgh I am getting soo frustrated, I have done everything ....lost weight gained it back plus more !! They just don't get it -- I will keep gaining and getting bigger and bigger if I don't do this. I am the heaviest I have ever been at 5'4 195 # . I don't want to go out anymore, I don't want people to see me ... In my mind this is what I need to do. I can't go on like this anymore. I understand that they're concerned because of the whole Mexico thing and complications and all but I have done soo much research. I just have to stick to what I believe and hope there are no problems !! Thank goodness for this site cuz I get encouragement here just by reading other people's experiences .. Thanks for listening all !

Chubbyone -

I also have a lower BMI, I weigh around 205 and I am 5'5". I have not told very many people that I am doing this because of the judgment that comes with it. I have lost and gained more times than I can count and I am just tired of the roller coaster ride. I had checked on this surgery previously and it seemed like no doctor would do the surgery if you had a lower BMI, so when I saw that more and more doctors were starting to do it.....I made my mind up that it didn't matter how far I had to travel, I was having this done. I do not like going out in public, I don't like socializing and that is not me....I was so outgoing before I had my kids and I was the life of the party, but after gaining a significant amount of weight, I became more and more depressed and for the past 12 years my children have had to suffer because I am fat! Well, no more, I am doing this not only for myself, but for them as well. I want to be a better person, I want to be a better mother and I don't want my kids to be embarrassed when we go out in public. I want them to be proud to say "that's my mom" It is awful to think that I have spent the past 12 years dieting and never accomplishing anything.

I know that that it is important to have support, but your friends need to support you in your decision. It is a decision that only YOU can make. Maybe they should walk in your shoes and they would have a different tune. Being overweight is not fun, especially if you had been thinner at one time. I actually think it is harder to deal with being overweight when you go from being a normal size to being obese. This website if full of people that have the same problem and we are all here for one another and even though your friends may not be on board with you, just know that we are here for you. So anytime you need to talk, just get online. You can e-mail me anytime. I would love to have somebody to walk down this road with. It is going to be the beginning of a new life and a new outlook. Take care.

I get depressed also and feel kind of wishy washy at times. Ive said to myself do I know what Im doing? I makes me feel like I'm indecisive. But like LapBandit put it, no one but us walk in our shoes. I have been thinking that I should not let other people influence my choices because they don't know what Ive been through in my life thanks to my excess weight. Cheer up chubbyone! I keep vusualizing myself in that little number that hotmomma talks about and it does work. I'll try to get online as much as possible and if I can be of any help count on me.

Thank you soo much Lap-Bandit and Chelsea !! I do appreciate you guys helping me throught this ! I totally needed that .. They just don't get it ! My best friend has never been fat in her life and she was like just exercise and she just doesnt understand how I feel. I told her to quit smoking !! Never have another cigarette in ur life -- tell me how easy that is-- That actually shut her up ! She is actually coming to Tijuana with me but keeps telling me how dangerous it is ... I just kept telling her we'll be fine .. It's just a few days.. and the hotel is attached to the hospital .. There really is no need for us to leave there.

Anyways, i really just wanted to say THANK YOU soo much for understanding and posting ur thoughts for me !! Good Luck to everybody and I'm looking forward to Sept 25th !!

Has any of you guys heard of extrapounds.com? It is a really cool site that you can sign up for and track your weigt loss progress and you can blog. You can keep in touch with friends that are on the same site and discuss your challenges and progress. I think we should start our own pages and chat back and forth. I guess it is kind of like my space, but it is for people who are trying to lose weight. I thought this would be a nice way to track your progress and also chat with other banders. Is anybody interested? I am going to set up a page. Its free and you can't beat that. So, if you guys are interested, go to extrapounds.com and sign up and create your webpage and we can start blogging with one another about up coming surgery and life with the band. I hope someone will join me....PLEEEEESE :biggrin1:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
