Hi everyone, im 2 months post op, lost 45lbs..doing great. I wish i could lose more faster but i no thats insanity. Lol.

Ive been told that Hair loss is a big thing after surgery, i have long THICK hair and i haven't noticed anymore hair loss then i did before surgery. It was normal for me to loose alot of hair in the shower BEFORE surgery. Since surgery, ive noticed it not as much.

I want to get my hair cut but am fearful of loosing my hair after i cut it....

Does anyone have any success stories or nightmares they can share to help me make a decision?

Thanks

Usually Hair loss doesn't start until 3-4 months after surgery, so don't make any decisions based on what you are, or aren't, experiencing right now.

Shorter hair actually hides hair loss better than longer hair, plus it's easier to manage. If I were in your situation, I would go ahead and get it cut.

I have both nightmare and success.

So around 3 months, I worked on getting my Protein from food and not shakes. I was usually between 60-70 grams and my hair was coming out so fast. I was so sad... crying all the time.

then at about 5 months, I said, let's go back to 80-90 grams Protein and added back one 35 g Protein shake. The Hair loss decreased so much!!! Also, I cut my hair short so it did not feel as much. Now I only clean my brush out every 2-3 days instead of ever day.

If this help... look at it this way... It's going to happen, and you minimize it by having more protein.

Also, I use a Biontin Shampoo by JSON. Not sure if it does any good but it makes me feel like it does.

Any hair loss from weight loss surgery is temporary. It will eventually grow back. There's really nothing you can do to stop it. Despite what people think, Hair loss from weight loss surgery is not from not getting enough Protein. It's actually related to hormonal changes the body goes through when there is a massive or sudden loss of weight.

Mine started about 3 1/2 months post op. I had short hair to start with, so it hasn't been noticeable to anyone but me so far. I just hit the 5mo mark this week and I noticed the last 2 times I washed my hair that there seemed to be less falling out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to be a continuing trend.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
