4 days post op - can't tolerate anything

Recommended Posts

Hi- I was sleeved 9/14. I can't tolerate anything. Even a small sip of Water feels like I'm drinking a gallon. Same for my liquid meds or meds that are crushed and placed in medicine cup with liquids. I'm not sure what to do, but I know at this rate I'll be dehydrated soon. I can't have Protein because after a few sips I was beyond full and uncomfortable. I'm using a soppy cup and going super slow but I can't intake more than an ounce or less before the pain kicks in. Thoughts?

Btw: can't take pain meds. Discovered an allergy in the hospital. Only over the counter Tylenol, but drinking that is like eating a Thanksgiving meal.

Since you are having such trouble, I would recommend getting in touch with your medical team and asking for help. They can assess how close you are to dehydration and take steps to keep you healthy, like IV fluids. They should also be able to help figure out what is going on. I know some people are hesitant to get in touch with their surgeon's office, but they do want to help you and keep you healthy. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear your having such a difficult time. Are you still in hospital or are you home? Speak to your surgeon or team don't wait until your too dehydrated . I am day 3 post bypass and tolerating Water and a little Protein Shake.

Are you walking? If not you need to dorce yourself to get up and go. You will surprised at how much it helps.

Force yourself to get up (auto correct is the enemy)

One thing that helped me was I used a medicine cup to drink my liquids from and I made three sips from one. It made me take tiny tiny sips and that helped. I had to sip all day long to stay hydrated.

Hang in there it does get easier. The first few weeks are a learning process.

Good luck to you!

In addition to everything above, I would suggest warm broth. Cold drinks at this point can cause stomach spasms.

I had this problem after surgery and ended up getting very dehydrated. I should have been pushing the warm broth because that was the only thing that I could do. Once I got over that hump, it was smooth sailing Good luck!

I was also sleeved on 9/14 and had to stay in the hospital for a extra 2 days because of this same issue, they gave me around the clock iv and Zofran every 4 hours , I came home on Thursday still MISERABLE and had a headache because I still wasn't tolerating nothing, I keep taking the Zofran and on Friday my husband got me some chicken broth from bob Evans (checked with my surgery team first) and it gave me life slowly by Saturday, I literally magically felt better from the Zofran and still sipping on the delicious broth and I hate broth lol now it's sunday I sent him to get me 2 large broth to last me and I haven't had a zofran since yesterday and no pain meds since Friday and I got up for a walk, cooked Breakfast and even went to church, I need a nap but I feel accomplished , but u may need a iv fluids and I hope u feel lots better, hugs

How are u feeling today

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
