Why at Week 4 we are allowed Beans but not peas? I love red Beans and white beans (unfortunately I am not able to have them over rice as most New Orleans people love. It is a tradition here on every single Monday). I love peas and espceically pea Soup but my NUT told me that I am not allowed to have that b/c of the carbs and gassiness. What is the difference. Beans are like that too???

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I didn't have peas specifically on any of my lists so I started eating them when Beans were allowed and had no difficulty. Weirdness.

@KarenLoh Did it give you bad gas or pains? Did you notice an increase in the scale? Did you eat peas out of the can? Make a Soup out of it?

Beans do have more Protein than peas. My dietician allowed beans (very small amounts) because they are considered "high protein," but peas were not approved because they didn't have enough protein to compensate for the carbs.

@@Bufflehead Thank you for clearing that up. I may make some pea Soup anyway and just have a few tastefuls.

I would go with what your gut tells you (no pun intended). Beans have been impossible at every attempt and I am resigned to the fact that they may never work again. I believe their Fiber is very tough on the sleeve and induces nausea and stacking of other foods almost immediately. I don't know why peas would be considered worse.

Not sure why peas would not be allowed. I had them during the first 2 weeks post op. (I had a full liquids stage) A cup of split peas is 48gms of Protein. I think that's pretty good.

@ - Hey! we had the same surgeon! Thankfully Beans haven't bothered my tummy one bit. Love them especially black beans.

During my nutrition class, my NUT explained that the problem with many veggies, particularly beans/peas is the carbs. Green Beans is the exception.

But they are complex carbs, they aren't going to sit and turn to glucose. I'm vegetarian, most of my Protein comes from beans, it hasn't adversely effected my weight loss in the least.

I was told I could have 'mushy' peas.

Do you eat red/white Beans still on Monday, but with no rice?

Try putting it over mashed potatoes. I know it sounds crazy, but I did that in Louisiana a lot 'cause I am not crazy about rice. It tasted good. I made cajun potatoes. Yummmm.

Glad I moved away 'cause I don't know what I would do when crawfish season hits.

I guess when I am back down there in a few months, I will have to find out how I will eat all that great food.

I love split pea Soup and bean with bacon but I'm assuming condensed Soup has a bunch crap we can't have so I'm working on making my own healthy versions soon.

Can I have grits? I looooove grilled shrimp and grits!!

I would eat the red Beans without the rice. In fact one of my favorite meals is Beans topped with a sunny side up egg. Good Protein, plenty of Fiber and filling.

You should check with your nutritionist. I could have grits once I hit purees, but I didn't do it often because there's not a lot of Protein in it and it wasn't worth it to me. I made my own bean Soups because they were allowed during all liquids. I puree cooked beans then strain out the skins. If I needed to I'd thin it out with a little vegetable broth. I'd serve it with a tiny bit of Fage 0% greek yogurt (similar in taste/texture to sour cream) or a sprinkling of shredded cheese.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
