Constant nausea, morning sickness feeling, allergies, post nasal drip

Recommended Posts

I've been having this constant almost all day nausea. Whenever I try to eat, I feel like I'm going to vomit, no matter what I eat. I also get this feeling with Fluid intake. Sometimes I feel like I'd be better if I just threw up but can't make myself throw up - I try, but nothing comes up.

I have been dealing with some major allergies and have been rather congested over the past few weeks.

I only recently put the two together... Post nasal drip and nausea. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is that a reasonable excuse for all the constant nausea and gross feeling in my tummy? I recently moved to a new state and haven't found a Bariatric clinic yet to follow up with. I'm sure I could email my surgeon back home but I can't get back in to be physically evaluated if they need me to.

For the allergies I have been taking either Claritin or Zyrtec and using Flonase nasal spray. With the more extreme flares, I've even added Benadryl to the regimen. I have an appt scheduled for Sept 14th with an allergist to restart allergy injections. I'm hoping that helps as well.

I was mistaking a lot of allergy symptoms with GERD, have you been checked out for that? When I started taking acid reducing medication and catering my diet around it, my nausea and mucus issues went away almost completely! GERD gives your mucus and if you already have allergy issues (which I do and take Claritin) the combination is horrible. Try taking some OTC Omeprazole with your allergy meds and see a difference; it could very well be that.

The problem with both allergy medz (antihistamine) AND acid reducing medz is that they both reduce yr bodies natural mucus secretion

Incsse of allergies especially respiratory ones, dry throat means more trigger for coughs.

That was my ordeal when I had both together on high doses of acid reduction medz

Ask your surgeon for Zofran. It's for nausea and works wonders. Good luck!

I was given Prilosec right after surgery for acid reflux. I do have it and it sucks lbvs. I was told about it being a side effect of the surgery when I met with my surgeon for my initial consultation.

That being said, I haven't been taking my meds everyday like I'm supposed to. I'll get back on track with it and see of that helps. I'll be seeing the allergist next week to get started with allergy shots again. Hopefully I can get this all under control real soon.

It sounds like you are on the right track regarding the allergy component. There is another med instead of Zofran. It is Anzamet but it is on backorder (no generic yet). For me, it is less sedating than 4mg or 8mg Zofran. I still am suffering from stomach issues 3 years out, but it is getting better I guess. Since Flonase is not systemic, it is less drying to your nasal passages so I would make sure you take that. I hope you feel better!

Hi Jen the nausea could possibly be due to problems with your gall bladder also, please do seek medical advice. 3 months after WLS i experienced extreme nausea where i was rushed to hospital. A few days later i was on the operating table having my gall bladder taken out!

Wish you all the best xox

I have more allergies than I can shake a stick at. This is what I do.

1. Take Zyrtec EVERYDAY before bed. Find out which antihistamine works best and stick with that. I tried Allegra for a bit and it wasn't strong enough. Claritin make me sleepy and if I fight it I feel drunk and nauseous. I only use Benedryl if I am having a reaction (hives or anaphylaxis) as it also makes me sleepy.

2. Do not take Vitamins until you have eaten food whether it is a Protein shake or more substantial foods.

3. Use the nasal spray after food as well. I only use mine during really high pollen times. I have the Zyrtec app on my phone and check it daily, but my body usually tells me. I cannot use it daily because it dries my nasal passages too much and I end up with a headache as a result.

4. Make sure you are using a PPI if you need it. I found I needed it most from month 3 - 6, but it wouldn't hurt to try it for a week or 2 to see if it makes a difference.

5. Make sure you are getting in plenty or water/fluids. I find my symptoms can get worse if I get dehydrated.

I am with you on the nausea. I am on Zofran and my surgeon just called me in finegrin (sp?). They make me sleepy, but without them I can't get in my liquids. Even the smell of foods make me feel sickly.

I hope you can find something that will help you oiut.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
