I had my bypass done on 8/10/15 and still have issues with one of my wounds not being healed. How long does it normally take to be able to walk? Like I want to be able to take a nice walk though my neighborhood but still to weak to go that far so it feels that way?

I was up and walking every two hours after the operation. I walked every day for 30 minutes when I returned home. But some people have problems and people are different.

I walked as much as tolerated around the house for the first few weeks after surgery but I was fatigued and not feeling up to par for a while. It took a good two months post-op to start walking outside my house. I think everyone is different. I would say listen to your body and find a good medium. Don't over do it but don't be sedentary either. The weight will come off.

Howdy Karl.

I hope your strength steadily returns and you are feeling like taking those walks soon.

About the wounds......were you advised to treat them with any type of topical medication ?

I'll be asking you a bunch of questions here in a couple of months as I follow along with my own bypass.

Good

Karl,

I am now 4 weeks out and just now able to walk about 30 minutes. Take it easy. I had very little energy the first two weeks and just walked in my house; however, I live in Texas where the lows have been in the 80s and the highs have been 100-101. That was another good reason to walk in the house! lol

@@Karlnjax - take it easy on yourself! You had some complications and longer stay than some of us. You need and deserve the rest. Just get up and walk around the house a little to get started. It will get easier and then you can try a walk down the street (preferably with someone just in case you get weak). Everyone is different. I am not great at exercising myself, but I walked 3 miles yesterday at 11 weeks post-op and I was completely wiped out. (I was tired at 2.5 miles / 50 min but I had to keep going to get back home!) Your strength will come back. Be patient and keep up with the Protein and fluids. VERY important for your healing - much more so that true exercise at this stage.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
