Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?

  • Popular Post

I constantly run into Sleevers in their 50s and 60s but I would love to get to know some of you who are bypassers. Seems our life experiences and potential difficulties may make us good support for each other! (You know, little things like menopause, arthritis, etc...). Please come out of "hiding" and gather here. I need to see yall in action! And would love to support you as well!

Hi I am 62 and had a bypass on 05/08/18. Best thing ever I have done for myself. I have already cut my heart meds in half and cut out 3 out 4 high blood pressure meds. I have lost 21 lbs in 12 days since surgery. You will wish uou did this much sooner.

Good luck and remember to follow your doctor’s food and vitamin regime after surgery. First week concentrate on getting all 62 ounces of water in. That is very important. Also 2 days after surgery your stomach will be massively bruised looking. It’s normal due to anticlotting meds that they put in stomach.

I'm 60 and getting ready to retire. I also have Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and all the assorted aches and pains that come with age. My surgery is scheduled for 5/23/18. What I'm scared of is that it normally takes us older folks longer to heal than younger folks. But since I've started the liquid diet , I've already lost nine pounds and have stopped taking my quick acting insulin. Looking forward to hopefully getting to stop most of my prescription meds and feeling better!

I had T2 Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol for 11 years, my RNY 2 years ago was a huge gift! I feel so much younger, no more T2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, arthritis has practically gone away. You will be fine. I was 52 when I had my surgery, was ready to get back to work in less than a week. Concentrate on walking and getting your water right after surgery, it will be hard but you can do it!

Hello- I am 52, I'm currently working on all the pre-requisite hoop jumping! I have one more appt. with dietician, my cardio appt. 2 wkshops and a final appt. with surgeon before sending in for insurance approval.

I am nervous I won't be approved and worried because my spouse is not on board with the idea of surgery (he's never been overweight).

I just want to get fit enough to really enjoy the next 20-30 years of my life! I had an acl reconstruction surgery last year and have a hard time walking up stairs. I sound like I just ran a marathon after two flights of stairs.

Hoping so much to qualify to get this tool to help me.

I am 62 had bypass on 5/8/18.My husband was not on board either. But it was life or death for me for my future. If he loves you he will come around if not then do it for yourself. Three weeks after surgery my husband is now on board.

But I would do this journey alone if I had to , so I could live longer. I owe it to myself to be healthy.I am already off of 7 out of 10 meds I used to take prior to surgery!

Mind over matter: if you don't have a mind it don't matter.
Count after Count
If you lose count, it never means you're no-account, you just ran out of fingers and toes that day.

Thanks for the pep talk. You ate right-this is most definitely for me! Well me and my 11 year old daughter. After meeting my husband in my thirties then failing to conceive after two years or so I had to do IVF two miscarriages till I was finally able to stay pregnant had my darling daughter and then when she was 5 i was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now that is all behind me but with every year and every challenge my weight got higher and higher. Now I'm pre diabetic, high blood pressure sleep apnea and I'm just tired of being tired. I can't wait to get fit and healthy!

Gramma rusty how are you feeling three weeks out? That's awesome about getting off all those meds!

Keep us posted on your progress please!

Had sleeve surgery at 58 on May 2. One of the best things about the surgery is starting to feel like myself again! For many years, it felt like I was buried under all the excess pounds. As they slowly fall off, I feel more and more like myself.

Ok. I am officially part of this club!!! I turned 50 last Friday!! I had my surgery in April.

And your ever beloved Frustr8, the 72 year old Wonder When Woman, is still moving toward her surgery FINALLY! Somewhere in the midst of JULY the REBIRTHDAY will happen. And no matter what happens then I know I am doing the right thing. Prayers, chants and Well,Wishes all gratefully accepted. ???

@Frustr8Glad to hear that you are moving toward surgery in July. Wishing you much success and a speed recovery.

I was 57 when I started this journey now I am 60 and surgery is July 5!

I started my journey at 58. Had surgery on 5/8/18 at age 62. I had spent most of 18 years in bed from pain. I now walk a mile! So thankful for my second chance at life! Good luck with yours!!
