Pre Op diet weight loss amount?

Recommended Posts

So far I am 6 days into my 800 calorie preop diet and have only lost 2 additional pounds. I have however lost 20 pounds in the last month as this was required prior to surgery being scheduled.

I suppose it depends a lot on what you're supposed to eat/drink and how long you're on the diet for. I could only have 4-5 Protein shakes a day plus Clear liquids, but others are allowed one or two small meals (e.g., a couple ounces of lean Protein and veggies). Also, some are on the diet for 3 or 4 days and others for two weeks. Mine was two weeks of shakes and Clear Liquids - I lost 15 lbs.

Hi @@mishi! I started my pre-op diet a month before my surgery to be proactive with weight loss and liver shrinkage and today was my two week checkup and I have lost 19 pounds!

I will be on the same diet up until 24 hours before my surgery, so I anticipate losing even more prior to my surgery date.

Everyone's pre-op diet is different, and everyone's pre-requisites are different too. Some people have to lose weight before their surgery and some people don't. I didn't have to, but I wanted to be as successful as possible after surgery so any weight I lose before hand will definitely be helpful.

Keep up the good work, doll! xo

I was not required to do a pre-op diet (only two days of clear liquids right before surgery) but I put myself on one with my surgeon's blessing. It consisted of 3 low or sugar free Protein Shakes a day, as much Water and tea as I wanted, and a small meal of mostly Protein three times a week. I didn't think i would lose a lot of weight from only one week of this diet, but I actually lost ten pounds, much to my surprise as I stepped on the scale on monday, the day of my surgery. I have no idea what i weight now but I am very curious. :)

I wasn't required to lose weight before surgery. I was required to do a two week pre-op liquid diet. My diet allowed 3 Protein Shakes a day ( I hated these and usually got just two in a day) and I could have 64 ounces of clear liquids. I ate a lot of sf Jello and popsicles and Water had some broth (I strained chicken noodle soup) gave the noodles to the kids and ate the broth that helped so much.. I lost 20lbs during that time.

Hi @, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who decided to be proactive. I'm waiting for my approval to schedule to see my surgeon. I know by faith it will happen and I have started a pre-op diet. I have 4 Protein Shakes, 2 broths, 1 serving of skim milk, 1 low sodium vegetable juice, and 1 sugar free Jello. I'm starting on my second week. I'm completely excited for my surgery!!! ????

@@GBLady41 That sounds pretty similar to what I'm doing, too!

I do 4 Protein shakes a day and then I have a list of approved vegetables. My menu is usually like this:

Breakfast: Protein shake

Mid-Morning Snack: 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce

Lunch: Protein Shake

Mid-Afternoon Snack: SF pudding or Jell-O

Dinner: Protein shake, 1/2 cup of low sodium approved Soup

Before Bed Snack: Protein Shake

And then if I want to have a veggie at any time (i've been sticking to cucumbers, broccoli and green Beans mostly..maybe salad here and there) I can, as I can eat those freely. I can also allow myself a SF popsicle if I want to, but I really dislike the taste of them. And obviously, I drink a ton of water!! I got some SF Water flavoring from Target (their Market Pantry brand) and really like it!

Sounds like you're on a similar path as me! Good luck on your journey!! xo

I ended up losing 26 pounds on my two week pre op diet. Mostly from my boobs I think since my bras are too big. :/

Am on my 5th nutritionist appointment and have gained 8 pounds so now she wants me to loose that before my last appointment in September or else they might refuse me the insurance

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
