3 week post Op Question

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys! I am 3 weeks out today and for the most part have been doing well, however I have been experiencing sever back and side pain ( soreness) on my left side. It has mad sleeping almost impossible which is turning me into a mess. I mentioned it to my surgeon at my 2 week check up and he didn't seem concerned. He said it was my back muscles over compensating for my stomach muscles that had been weakened due to surgery. My question is, has anyone else experienced this? How long does this last? What can I do for the pain. Currently I have been using Tylenol, and alternating Heat and Ice.

I did. I used Blue Emu cream and IcyHot gel on my back nightly along with a heating pad. At my 3 week visit my surgeon suggested it was Constipation although I'd been have daily bowel movements. He suggested I take 2 stool softeners and start Benefiber (or the like) twice daily. That did the trick within 3 days I no longer needed the creams on my back or a heating pad.

I am trying. I sip all day long, some days I only get 40oz in, which I know is not enough. I am trying to increase my Water intake each day. The Dr wants to see my tomorrow morning just to make sure nothing else is going on.

I wore my belly binder to sleep for almost a month...that helped keep back pain down some.

Around week three I developed a severe pain in my left shoulder and left side, when I would breath in. Long story short, I had a leak in my pouch. If the pain is when you breath in, I would have it checked out immediately.

Yes, I experienced this and realized it have everything to do with the fact that I was not getting nearly enough Water.

As soon as I started truly sipping constantly and was able to get a minimum of 48 ounces in, that pain went away.

I remember it being scary but after talking with a bariatric nurse who herself had bypass she knew exactly what was happening and how to resolve it.

Saw my Dr. He confirmed its just muscle spasms. He said because I had such a weak core to begin with ( just a nice way of saying I was out of shape) my back is now compensating for the lack of stomach muscles. He prescribed Felxerall (sp) and told me to go get a massage.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
