My doctor does two parts too but I only had to wait a month. I would think bypass would be the same. They do it in two parts because of swelling and stretching from what I understand. If they try to do it in one sometimes they can't make your pouch as small as they would like.

I am a NY girl now living in NJ.When I originally had my lap band I had it done at Lenox Hill it was the pioneer hospital but there are quite a few other hospitals and some great Drs.

The Dr. Did state that it is done in 2 surgeries because with the sleeve there are staples and if there is scarring and swelling it can cause complications. With the bypass same deal.I just am nervous of having to go under anesthesia twice. Is there a hospital stay for the initial band removal?

I'm heard a lot about this 3 month thing and from what I heard it is more about getting your insurance to pay My Dr is one from a Center of Excellence so I think he gets to do things more

I think Rosie is probably right. I know I had to do 3 months of nutritional counseling for insurance approval (it's really three visits not months). I went to my first appt in June and am scheduled for sleeve in two weeks. I have been unfilled since the beginning of June with removal middle of July. I have gained and lost gained and lost. It's hard.

my insurance didn't cover mine and mine had to be done in 2 surgeries. I had to wait 7 months because the amount of damage the band did to my stomach, it was horrible. I was having upper gi's every month for 4 months and i still had a lot of holes, damage and paralyzation of my stomach. We decided to quit putting me under the stress of coming in for upper gi's every month and decided to wait another 3 months to let it heal and let my body heal. we knew the whole time my insurance wasn't going to cover it and my dr was just being cautious for me. If i would have done it all in one i would have bled to death internally do to the damage and scar tissue of the inside of my stomach. trust me, take the time and let your stomach heal or you will have big problems. i only gained 6 lbs in those 7 months also. i watched what i ate.

OMG.This is crazy damage...,what do you mean the insurance company didn't want to pay???What insurance do you have. Also this band leads me to believe that it needs to be taken off the market.Too many of us are having trouble...Its defective.

I guess I need to do it in 2 surgeries ...better safe than sorry.

I have United Health Care and they would not pay for me to get the sleeve. they paid for me to get it and they paid to have it removed but denied the sleeve for afterward 5 times. I'm very glad i did mine in 2 surgeries now. He told me at one point he could do it in one surgery but that i would have to stay in the hospital for 6 weeks to be checked twice a day for bleeding out or leakage. i took the other choice of waiting 7 months and doing a gi then and see where we went from there. long story short, my 1 1/2 hour surgery ended up being 5 hours long and during it he had to send a nurse to go get the upper go machine so he could use that to go into my stomach to guide him through it. it was a living nightmare. BUT i am now 6 weeks out and doing good. Have had some complications but were fixable without surgery. I am losing weight more slow then a virgin sleeve but that's ok too as long as i'm losing. I'm eating normal food which to me is Protein and veggies, my fav. if you have any questions or need to talk just let me know girl. I've been through the worst of the worst and have now become one of his case studies to show other dr's and patients what can really happen.

I tottaly get what your saying but you have a big problem with your band so this is not the same as mine, my band has only been in just 2 years only problem is I'm not lossing..and I just keep getting stuck..

And my team says for diffrent inc you need to meet diffrent things like weight checks etc..

yeah i had no symptoms at all that my band had eroded into my stomach. the only problem i had was i wasn't losing and i could tell i was eating more. I switched drs and the new dr found it and said it had been in my stomach for a good 2 years or more. good luck girl.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
