I didn't start a steady exercise regime till about 4 months after. I would walk but no actual deliberate exercise. I started going to the gym 4 months post op twice a week 30 minutes and now I'm 1 year out and I go to the gym 5 days a week for at least an hour.

I'm 4 months out and still haven't started exercising consistently. I'm just now starting to walk 3 miles a day and I just signed up for a 5k in December. I have a bone fracture in my foot I've been dealing with since before my surgery and now that I've lost 60 pounds I'm able to walk for exercise without as much foot pain.

I was supposed to start "brisk walking" immediately after surgery. I didn't get to more intense cardio or strength training until about 3 months post-op.

Today starts my 3rd month and I started Water aerobics today. I have been going to the pool and playing around with my son.

We went bowling on Saturday and I had to have my son finish my 2nd game - I couldn't do it.

I've been doing Zumba several times a week since 2 weeks after the surgery. I'm 2 months out now, and have added kickboxing and weights. I also walk most days

I started running at 3 weeks and I was back in boxing class at 5 weeks post-op. I'm not a fan of lifting weights, so I did that minimally after surgery and up to now when I am about 2 years post-op.

I'm eleven days. Did a light Pilates workout. Hit some Tennis Balls. Walking 5 miles a day. Still a little sore to run. But not that far away. I say your body will let you know. My Dr. Told me I could start when he released me from hospital. Now I know he wasn't all that serious. As I had signed up to play in a Tennis Tournament. I withdrew realizing that wasn't going to happen! But do plan on playing in one in two weeks. Hoping my endurance is there.

Walking is hard for me as I had surgery from bone cancer in my leg, so riding a bike is less painful for me. I rode this wknd for the first time post op (july23). I rode 19mi Saturday & 21 mi Sunday. I was severely winded & soo thirsty. It took me longer & was harder but I feel good knowing it is possible. I am having a hard time drinking Water & Protein Drinks. I have about 30 oz of water & 11oz Protein drink/day & only lost 11lbs :(

@@evett I would hold off on the exercise until you can get your Water intake up. You don't want to end up in the hospital with dehydration! I had a rough time getting my water in early on too. The swelling in my stomach and esophagus made even the tiniest sip an ordeal. The good news is that it improved drastically once the swelling went down a couple of weeks post-op. Try experimenting with different temperatures of water too. I have a lot easier time drinking ICE COLD water or hot beverages (tea and coffee). I can't drink room temperature or luke warm water, even 11 months post-op. Some people are just the opposite and an ONLY drink room temp water. So experiment and see what works best for you!

@@Jamie, just had my 1st post-op appt & got scolded. Doc said NOT cleared for cycling for at least a month and only if I get my protein/water goals met! Said I won't heal & am dehydrated. My bad just trying alternative to walking.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
