struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)

Recommended Posts

I am going to have to try and stick my shake in the freezer. Sounds like that could work. The worst part in the morning for me getting it down right now is the consistency and temperature.

I think that I have to admit to myself at this point that I am not ready for this surgery. I have cheated every single day of this diet. I have lost 13 pounds in 9 days, and while that is great, I have still cheated all along and need to face that fact. I am supposed to have my surgery on August 3, and see my doctor tomorrow. I don't know how I would survive post op and beyond if I couldn't even do this. I am so sad and disappointed in myself.

If I can do this, anyone can do it. Sure it has been extremely difficult...I've cried....wanted to scream...grumpy....frustrated....angry but I know in the long run it will be worth. Maybe your surgeon can prescribe an appetite suppressant. Good luck and I know you can do this.

What have you "cheated" with? Are we talking entire meals or a small bite here and there? If you're doubting yourself now, it's probably best to seek out a therapist and work through some of the issues and readdress when you're ready.

You can do this @garbekr0118 Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. It's like we tell others, we must tell ourselves too, this is not the easy way out. I think you will find around here everyone cheated here or there, but don't beat yourself up about it. You confront the problem head on and push forward. If you absolutely feel you aren't ready then reschedule it and work up to the point when you are.

Thanks everyone, I have not had a "meal" at all, but I have just cheated in general, with bites of stuff here and there. Some days worse than others. I think the therapist is something I am definitely going to pursue once I speak to my dr tomorrow whether we decide to go forward or not. It certainly won't hurt me to have counseling either way. I make no excuses for myself, and fully recognize that I may not be ready. I just feel like cr@%, because I really thought I was. This 2 week diet was much worse than I thought it would be.

@@garbekr0118 Ok do me a favor and write down at least 4 reasons you want the surgery ..like I will be healthy .or I will look great in normal size clothes etc ..Look at these at least 3 times a day and even when you feel like you need to cheat .. You will have the will power to do this ..Heck stick on on the fridge or pantry door..

When I make my shake I add ice or milk ice cubes then i put it in a baby bottle cooler bag with a small frozen cold pak and it stays cold until I get to work.

That's another good idea. I've been trying to drink mine on the way to work and they still lose their coolness. I have just been doing ready-to-drink shakes right now. I haven't switched just yet to mixing my Protein Powder in and making my own.

To all of you struggling. The lead up to surgery is the hardest part. Once you have it your stomach will be smaller and it will get better. I cheated a bit prior to surgery and doubted my commitment too. But since then i wont say its been a walk in the park but its definitely easier when hunger isnt working against you. One thing i did when i was starving pre surgery was googling before and after pics. It kept me motivated when all i could think about was food.

So I had a super easy time with days one and two but day three is tough. I am WAY hungrier than I was the past two days and I don't know why. Headache too. It's only 2pm and the work day is feeling very long.

But I had my pre-op meetings yesterday and got all the information about post-op diet and Vitamins and had my labs and EKG done and met with the internist. It was intimidating (all the information at once) but I splurged and got all the vitamins I will need for the first month so I don't have to worry about that at all. chewable or dissolvable everything. And they gave us a great book with everything we need to know clarified in it. Very nice.

Does anyone else know if they need to go home on Lovenox? I found out we do Lovenox injections for 14 days post-op. Fortunately my insurance only had a co-pay of $10 but I know that is expensive medication. It prevents blood clots.

One week from this Tuesday I'm there. August 11th.

I have a GNC and a Vitamin Shoppe near me. Where's the best place to buy from? I will order online if I have to but I have been so busy at work that my pre-op diet has crept up on me and is now in 5 days.

vitamin shoppe is awesome and sell samples so you can try different types before buying a big container

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
