Just found out that my program doesn't require the preop liquid diet! Oh man it feels good to know I won't have to prepare for that. I've heard stories. People saying they missed chewing the most! Anyways. I'm just waiting in insurance review I think! Then we'll be setting a date I assume. How exciting!

Good news on the diet front! I truly feel for the ones that have to do it for weeks. Mine will only be one day.

Congrats and best wishes!

Congrats on not having to do the pre-op diet. I did 14 days but it wasn't really bad and I lost weight on it. Good luck with your procedure and keep us posted on your progress!

Do you have no pre-op diet at all? Or just not the liquid. If the latter - check out these for some ideas of pre-op friendly foods (assuming you're allowed solids).

Congratulations on the surgery! I am on day 16 of the pre op diet and I am so very glad I did it. partly because its really brought home the fact that no matter what, I CAN do this and secondly my breath has kept people at work from talking to me and I have managed to get Sooooooo much work done lol :P

Best of luck, two days for me !!

Just no 2 week liquid diet! My friend scared me a few weeks into my program, felt like she was gonna die and that she missed chewing. I've been dreading it but I was determined to get through it. But my doctor gave me the news yesterday. Sigh of relief. Weight off my shoulders kind of thing. As a sufferer of anxiety, this was literally haunting my nightmares and daily thoughts of failing through the 2 weeks.

@@steph_anie, I think you'll do fine. It seems those few who can't make it through the pre-op phase, liquid or not, make a choice to cheat, just a little, several times a day. Stay away from that sort of self-sabotage and you 're golden. And congratulations on not having liquids-only! It's easy post-op... you won't want anything as solid even as broth for the first little bit :)

Thanks for encouragement! I've been preparing for post op liquids. I've been trying out sugar free everythings. But just the convo with her spooked me!

@@steph_anie, absolutely! And try not to stress too much about sugar-free everything, you need some amount of carbs in your life to keep your liver healthy. It seems most surgeons/NUTs recommend anywhere between 25 and 100 g carbs/day once you're post op, I know a few who recommend 200 - it's can be patient specific. For now, just focus on getting to surgery and talk with your NUT.

If you have a food and/or foods you really love that's a carb bomb, talk to your NUT or post them here and we'll see what we can do to help you adapt them to a lower-carb higher-protein form without losing taste/texture. OR, feel free to have a treat every once in a while. There's no reason to say goodbye to cheesecake forever, just for a while (while you heal) and then to only have a couple of bites every once in a great while etc etc. Not to mention the fact that post-sleeve, you're body is going to feel different and food is going to really taste different. I think you'll be impressed with how much your body gravitates towards 'healthier' things anyway.

I dad to complete a 2 week liquid diet of Protein Shakes and Jello. The first few days were rough but got much easier as the days passed. The day before surgery water/jello only was by far the hardest. I'm fortunate that my husband went through the procedure last month and a friend of mine is 6 days behind me, so we kept motivating each other when things got rough.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
