Line in the Sand Approach or Ease into Pre-op Diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone I’m 1.5 weeks away from my pre-op diet and I’m wondering is how should I do eating wise for this next 1.5 weeks?

Should I start phasing things out like drinking calories, cutting chocolate, having a Protein Shake for Breakfast etc, or do/did people find it easier to have their pre-op diet start date as a line in the sand, so eat whatever until then and have a fresh start on that date?? I’m just not sure what approach to take – thanks for your advice.

I start mine Tuesday and I'm just going to cut everything then. I just know myself and know that's the only way I'll stick with it. Good luck, it's hard no matter what.

I will start mine on August 3. I'm working in some Protein shakes/bars, Greek yogurt, etc, not really so much to ease into it, but to see what I like so I'll know beforehand.

I weaned myself off caffeine a couple months before surgery (took 2 months to do it.). I also stopped smoking cold turkey 3 months before surgery. Other than that I ate normal and drank alcohol right up until the day I started my preop. I figured why start torturing myself sooner than absolutely necessary?! ;)

Looking back now, the preop diet is barely a blip on my radar compared to postop life and maintenance. Really Just a small part of the process and a necessary "right of passage" that can often be empowering.

I am trying to decide the same thing right now. My pre-op appt is on the 28th and I have to start my liquid diet on the 3rd. Trying to decide if I start easing into the liquid diet on the 28th (2 shakes and a meal) or have all my favorite foods that week.

I'm still about a month out for a surgery date but I have incorporated Protein Shakes for my breakfast...not being a breakfast eater, i think it has helped me get into habit of having something instead of starving myself until lunch. I've also stopped all caffeine and carbonated drinks...not terribly hard for me since I wasnt a big drinker of those anyway. I do however really miss sweet tea :(

I have also bought a 32 oz plastic (bpa free of course) mason jug from wal mart that I try to drink two of every day while at work to practice getting in all that Water. Good luck everyone in your journey...here's to being a big loser!!! I cant wait!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
