Starbucks Question for Banders

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were banded on the same day (I wound up being banded a second time a week later....long story). We both loved Starbucks, I always had a non-fat latte, so I am good, but my wife loved the white chocolate mocha which had about 10,000 calories, and therfore is not on her diet.

I have not Starbucks Cheated on my wife yet, but I am close to stepping out on her.:) Does anyone have a suggestion for a Starbucks drink for my wife that is appropriate for people like us focused on losing weight and making thier lives better? She doesn't like the latte type drinks.

Thanks!

BigTrain has a low carb mix. I have seen it at Cash n Carry or you might try Googling it.

Hi Ernie,

A white chocolate mocha has 10,000 calories?!!:) Never knew that.

I adore Starbucks too and I often have a skim milk latte or chai.:clap2:

I swear, I think I am the only person in the world who buys coffee when I go to Starbucks. :)

Really, there are lots of skim options there, you just have to read the menus. Many people manage to live a very successful banded life without terminating their Starbucks habit.

I am so Starbucks addicted, I bought their machine and now make it at home.

Starbucks uses a white chocolate Syrup. The recipie is

mocha (2-4 pumps depending on size)

esspreso

steamed milk (fat free)

wipped cream (Redi Whip fat free)

If SB does not sell a sugar free white chocolate syrup, other places do. I bought a bottle at World Market.

You can use sugar-free hot cocoa mix for the mocha.

Experiment a little....it's fun and you won't have to worry about getting caught cheating.

I'm with Alexandra on this one. I usually order a "small, black coffee". they always look at me like I am crazy: "you don't want whipped cream on that? Or hazelnut Peanut Butter Syrup? ".

And I refuse to use the Orwellian Starbucksspeak. NO, I don't want a "tall" coffee, I want a "small" coffee. Who the hell came up with the "tall, venti, grande" system? It doesn't even make any sense! They always correct me and I just glare back at them.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.

To get back to the original question, does your wife like their cold drinks? The coffee light frappucino is something like 150 calories for a small and it's pretty good.

I suspect it was the same people who invented Chico sizing. A size 3 at Chico's is about an 18 in the real world. Who can't see thru that whole vanity size thing? I find it very patronizing.

Me too. I just dont get the attraction.

Sorry, but there's just no way you can drink those confectionary style coffees on anything like a regular basis. Learn to love good coffee would be my advice, the black stuff with a dash of cold milk, like you'd drink it at home.

A latte here is about 1/3 strong espresso, and hot milk (skim of course!), its just a plain drink, not a syrupy creation. I love a latte or cappucino, but generally I stick with plain coffee.

The "Americanisation" of Australia's coffee industry is driving me nuts. Australian's love really good coffee. We are very European in our tastes. We dont want this sweet rubbish, any more than we want Krispy Kremes! Well my generation dont, trouble is the Generation Y is lapping it up and its going to take over, :cry

Sorry, I'll get off my soabox, lol.

I think that Starbucks is strong .I prefer Dunkin Donuts over Starbucks. and if I do go to starbucks I order a regular coffee. With milk and no sugar. 550cal for a 16oz drink is outrageous I would much rather have solid food than a cup of sugar.

This is funny. I just posted on another thread that I have been trained to order the Starbucks way - it is sooo very irritating to be corrected when you're trying to order!

I was shocked the other day when I went online and read that my tall Decaf latte was over 200 calories and the slice of zuchhini loaf is 380 freaking calories!!!! I mean I can have scrambled eggs for fewer calories. No wonder I've not been losing weight well. I've been going to Starbucks about twice a week. Undermining the band. And yes, I do have a lot of trouble eating the zuchhini bread. It is a very slow process, but so tasty that I have just taken lots of time with it. I need to give it up and have more nutritious and lower calorie breakfasts.

sandras96: I got a Keurig machine. I think it's a lot like a Tassimo. Using pods. It makes an amazing cup of java. So incredibly convenient too. Do you buy Cappuccino pods?

Dunkin Donuts ANY DAY over Krispy Kreme!!! But no more fat balls for me! I'm pretending they don't exist.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
