Fast Food Staples

Recommended Posts

While we all know fast food isn't the preferred way to eat healthy, sometimes things happen and hey, ya gotta eat. I've been really good about meal planning at home ahead of time and eating things from home at work or otherwise away from home.

So far I've discovered Wendy's is a pretty safe stop for me. I tolerate their chili quite well (about 1/3-1/2 cup as a serving) and also their value menu Grilled chicken Wrap (i open it up and eat the insides only). If you consider Chipotle fast food, I'm able to eat their sofritas, black Beans, sour cream or cheese, Tomato salsa, corn, and guac. I can only eat about 1/4 of a bowl at a time, so it's not my top choice for having to get something "easy."

What are your go-tos for when you have to eat fast food?

I also sometimes have fast food. I like the grilled chicken sandwich at PDQ which I usually eat about 1/3 of. The grilled chicken sandwich at Chik Fil A is ok...for some reason it tends to make me sick sometimes, so I don't get it often. I love Panera chili, however they are no longer selling that for the summer. I tried the Wendy's chili and I wasn't super crazy about it. Most places like Panera that are sort of fast food but sit down have salad options, so I get those occasionally without the dressing or crispy parts (bacon, chips, croutons, etc). I'm not super crazy about fast food, but there are options that you can grab that are not that bad for you and taste decent.

Wendy's grilled sandwich, no bread. I cut it up into the side salad with fat free dressing.

Ooooh I have lots lemme see how many I can remember-

Chick fil a grilled chicken nuggets

Mc Donald's grilled chicken snack wrap w/o tortilla

Chipotle - side of chicken or barbacoa or softitas

Wendy's - chili

Panera - chili, black bean Soup, half of a chicken salad, quinoa broth bowl

Jack in the box - grilled chicken strips, chicken fajita pita w/o pita

Taco Bell - insides of soft chicken taco

You can usually come up with a good choice most places

Jasons' deli (salad bar, some of the wraps), Subway (same as Jason's), HT wraps, and once in a while Chipotle's salad. I can't eat half of the stuff there but they always give me extra lettuce and tomatoes. :)

Great veggies.

I haven't been to McD's or Wendy's in years. I'm floored when I get told things about it.

hmmm...I did not really eat fast food unless I was on a road trip before. Even scarier now. Dumping possibilities from hidden fat and sugar. When on the road I grab nuts, Jerky beef stick, pork skins and Water. If needing lunch maybe a sandwhich from subway with no bread and no sauce or mayo. I usually pack myself a meal or go to a sit down place that I know has healthy choices if I am out all day.

I rarely eat fast food but sometimes it's unavoidable, so I like Wendy's chili, the McDonalds bacon ranch chicken salad, or a Taco Time beef taco salad. If only a cheeseburger or sandwich is available I just eat the meat, no bread.

I never have liked fast food! But in an emergency 4 MacD's chicken nuggets aren't too bad overall in terms of calories. I think it is around 250 calories for 4. I don't have any dipping sauce,

The chicken Fajita Pita from Jack in the Box is pretty good( minus the pita) . Wendy's Chili is a little bland but decent. Chik Fil A has a good chicken Soup and their nuggets are easy to eat since not dry. I try my best to plan ahead and maybe take my own snack like almond snack packs and string cheese.

I think sometimes we should focus on the type of calories we put in our bodies. Something may be low calories yes but starches bread carbs sugar processed meat etc..... No good!

Taco bell's fresco style soft tacos... and i only eat the insides.

I don't think that most fast food is very palatable, I would prefer to go to a grocery store deli (not much more time over fast food) and buy something like:

-3-4 oz of really nice deli meats (boarshead) and a slice of yummy cheese... and have a meat and cheese rollup

-a small box of sushi. more rice then I should have, but I love it and it is fresh wholesome food

-a small veggie pack or fruit bowl

I completely agree. Trust me, I don't intend to encourage fast food eating. But life happens and I've quickly learned that it's dangerous to let yourself get hungry without knowing what your options are. I eat at home almost exclusively because i'm only 5 weeks out and I don't want to end up sick or uncomfortable away from home. But in the event that I am going to be faced with having to eat outside of home, I always research where I'm going so I know exactly what my options are and what I'm ordering.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
