When Did You Start Soft / Pureed Foods?

Recommended Posts

It seems like many of us get different directions from our surgeons regarding diet. I'm curious....

When did you start the pureed foods and what did you try first?

I had my surgery on March 24th it was Clear liquids week one weeks 2 and 3 puree and has to go through a stainer then weeks 3 through 6 is soft food where I can have things such as scambled egg, refried Beans and hummus. I do not eat meat so it will be a task finding food choices. I am looking forward to trying the ricotta bake that I have seen so many people say they have enjoyed.

I'm 12 days out and met with my surgeon today. He said I can try soft foods phase now even though technically it's supposed to be Wednesday. I had a imitation crab stick today and a ham and cheese rollup and it was AMAZING.

Tonight I am having fish.

The Surgeon told me I can try soft stuff and see how it feels. Just eat slow and CHEW CHEW CHEW, lol. :-)

The 4th week. I had a week of Clear Liquids, and 2 weeks of full liquids first.

As soon as I got home on day three, I started full liquids. At one week, I started purees, mostly baby food, and soft cooked chicken run through the blender with tasty bone broth. At week three I started soft foods just regular cooked food from the kitchen like refried Beans with cheese and a little sour cream, cooked chicken, ground beef run through the blender to make it smaller, with a little melted cheddar, mashed green Beans, stuff like that.

At 4 1/2 weeks I got the all clear for cooked foods as tolerated, so I stopped by Wendy's on the way home from the doctor's office and got chili with cheese. It lasted me four days! I had an early disaster with steamed cauliflower, so I stayed with softer veggies for another month. I coud eat applesauce and banana, but raw fruits like apples and greens like for a salad, I could not tolerate until three months. I am still scared to try popcorn, even at 15 months.

My surgeons schedule was post op day 1 and 2 clear liquids

Then next 7 days full liquids

Then for 3 weeks pureed foods

Then 4 weeks soft foods

Then unrestrictive regular foods-

Right now I'm 12 days into my pureed foods and Its getting harder to do

I can't wait for soft foods!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
