Exhaustion & hard to drink liquids

Hi, I just had the BP done on March 31. I am finding it very hard to drink 64 oz of liquid. I am 5 days PostOp and today I reached 50 oz! I know I am mildly dehydrated.

It has been very difficult even to eat every 3 hours as my doctor has instructed. So far I am tolerating the food. Does one start on 2 oz and progress to 4 oz? I am confused and haven't been able to speak with the nutritionist. While the Doctor is excellent I think very little of the staff. Cubans have a saying " new broom sweeps well". In other words has a client contemplating the surgery I thought I would have the support from the staff because they were selling themselves very well. I guess not everything that shines is gold.

I feel very weak and second guessing myself on the surgery! I knew coming in it would be hard but not this difficult.

Sorry for venting out!!!!

Just keep trying your best to do what your doctor tells you. Most important right now is that fluid intake. I couldn't reach my Dr order of 60 oz daily for a while either. 50 oz isn't too bad. If you're managing that, you should be okay, at least keep you from having to check back in the hospital to be hooked up to an IV again. It is a slow process to get back to feeling normal and accustomed to the new way of doing things. Hang in there, it does get better!

My surgery was March 31 also. At this point the max I have reached is 45 oz of water. It sounds like a lot of people have trouble fitting everything in at this point. My Dr doesn't have me moving to soft foods until 2 weeks post-op.

My doctor also has me on soft food two weeks post op. Can't wait.

The blended soups are horrible for me. I am supposed to have 5 meals but can only do 4!

I really do not like the protein liquid drinks!!! I am having a hard time time drinking the Isopure protein liquid drinks! I am praying as I start feeling better I can re-try them!

Almost everyone has trouble getting in the 64 oz. of fluids daily. You must try to at least get 48 in at first and then as the swelling goes down it will definately get easier for you. I remember being very weak until I could start drinking Protein and eating pureed foods. As soon as I could get going on that stuff I starteD feeling better. It then got better and better every day.

Keep your head up and eye on the prize it absolutely gets better.

Good luck!

One week out and you are not feeling great yet? I am guessing that I will take about two or three weeks before I feel like myself again. I go in tomorrow. This is our time to get good at positive self talk. Use your time well. We are pioneers in this new world.

Hi everyone, today I had 1 week follow up. Down 8 pounds total 18 pounds

I am still bloated was hoping by now it would have gone down. Lots of gasses and walking on my treadmill to free the gases.

My doctor told me I should have been at 100 oz of water by now and of course I am not. Please!!!! It's not as easy as they say.

Will take day by day. Little by little trying to improve on my liquids and food.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I had a tuff time even drinking 1 oz of water. I was very week. My poor hubby had to wake me up to try to getme to drink.

You are doing GREAT!!!!!!!

As long as not to be gross but if your pee is clear, you are doing great.

Good job on weight loss!

I'm 5 days post op. I'm not in much pain but I am exhausted and having a hard time getting my liquids in. Apparently it gets easier. Your new stomach is inflamed from the surgery and just needs to heal.

Today was especially difficult for me. I went to Costco with my mom (mistake) and pushed the cart around. It was crowded and there were samples everywhere, which made me so angry that I couldn't have any lol. It was crowded which irritated me further. By the time we got to the car, I was ready to check out. I went home and took a nap. Felt like slipping into a black hole.

wow its seems a bit difficult but I'm sure it gets easier. My surgery will be April 21 I'm really nervous and excited at the same time. i hope it goes smooth when it my time. Good luck!!

100 oz of water just one week post-op? I still don't manage that much. I get 75 oz in max daily. It's too tough with having to alternate to meals and get your protein in as well! That just sounds nuts to me.

Blashlee - too soon for cruising Costco! You should just rest for a while. I didthe same thing at a Super Target on the way home from the hospital. I had to get outta there quick as I could. I was wiped out.

Well a few days prior I had made it around a Target store with no problem. I think we just picked a bad day for costco, it was a lot more crowded than usual. Lesson learned.
