How many carbs should I be eating?

Recommended Posts

I bought this book called "weight loss surgery cookbooks for dummies". I've noticed that some of the recipes are super high in carbs. I haven't had the surgery yet, but they rang anywhere from 20-60 per serving! that seems WAY to high. Does anyone know what the appropriate amount of carbs were supposed to have after getting sleeved? TIA

I always do Protein first so I average 20 or less a day (after subtracting out fiber)

Ask your nutritionist what they prefer though!

You need to talk to your nutritionist about that. People have different schools of thought on carbs. I look more at the type of carb and the time of day I eat it. I am a vegetarian and most of my Proteins are plant based, but they are also high in carbs. The way I eat works for me and I am able to lose consistently. However I am not sure that would work for a meat eater. My carbs tendto run between 40 -60 a day and I eat between 700 - 900 calories a day.

Once you get a plan from your surgeon and nutritionist you will have some clear guidelines! I personally have requirements to keep daily carbs under 40g the first 6 months. I would think that some of those recipes are meant for maintenance on, and not to meant for the actual weight loss stage.

After speaking with my doc and nutritionist, both say 40mgs for the day. Remember potatos, pastas and breads will stop you from burning fat for 12 hours. Watch your carb!!!

I didn't know that. I'm still in phase 2 liquids but that's good to know.

That doesn't hold true for all carbs. My carbs are often over 40 but they are from plant based sources not potatoes, pastas or breads. 6mths out and I have yet to experience a stall.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
