Guys, my surgery is Thursday 3/26/15 and I'm really nervous about my liver being to big. My doctor didn't put me on a special diet and doesn't really seem to be bothered by it. I just don't want him to cut me open and say oh jeez that liver is to big I can't operate.... It's been 8 months since I started this trip and I don't want to have it all fall apart right here at the end... Any encouraging words would be greatly appreciated.

Billy...id go all liquids from here on out. Protein 2O is a great product to use. Just google the product to find who carries it close by. Also, going on all liquids just make sure there is 20 grams of sugar or less per serving.

20 grams of sugar? holy s*it thats a candy bar. if youre trying to lose weight how about sugar free please. unless you're trying to gain weight.

Oh by the way do what your doctor says not what anyone else says. some doctors dont have issues with liver being in the way they just add another hole and do it that way. let your surgeon be your guide. good luck. you will do fine.

NO worries.. if you doctor isnt worried you shouldnt be. As mentioned they typically add another hole and lift the liver out of the way by retracting it.

I'm sure your surgery will go great!

  • Thanks guys for all the good words. I'm not getting cold feet or second thoughts, just a little nervous. Never had real surgery before so it's a little scary knowing that I can't go back after Thursday. Any thing I should be aware of that you only find out after the surgery?

There were no surprises for me after surgery, except that I could eat a little more than I expected. It hasn't stopped the weight loss though. The surgery was pretty much painless after the first few days. I was a bit nauseated right after surgery (did not throw up), but they gave me medication for that as well. I feel so much better now I wish I would not have waited so long! Good luck, you will be fine!

DON'T WORRY ABOUT A THING!!!. I was a mess the days leading up to my surgery. I couldn't even drive to the hospital that day. Hangin there!!

Speaking from my experience, I felt terrible right after surgery but that was because of the morphine. I then received toradel and I was fine from then on. I am 2 weeks out and don't even feel like I had surgery. I am also surprised at how much liquid I can have in my sleeve. I barely have restriction and when I'm full I lose the desire to continue eating unlike my old stomach. Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
