March 31, Surgery Buddy

I was just thinking that I need to stop weighing every day for the exact same reason. Think I'm going to cut it down to once or twice a week.

It's crazy how fast it slowed down after I started introducing food into my diet... barely eating anything and only eating lean Protein.

I was soooo tired Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I think I was a little dehydrated. I started drinking Powerade zero to hopefully help that.

I am weighing every couple of days. So far I have lost 17 pounds since surgery, which I think is kinda slow but my surgeon said typical first month loss is 15 lbs. I am eating around 550 calories a day.

I weigh myself every 1-3 days, but it has been SLOW.

I'm eating about 550 a day too. I cannot stomach Protein Shakes. Getting them near my nose makes me gag, although the Inspire brand seems to be better than others I've tried. I've lost 30 pounds, but seem to be at a complete stand still for now.

I got so sick of chocolate and vanilla shakes that I started using a scoop of Unjury unflavored with 3/4 cup of milk mixed with a dannon light and fit greek blueberry or strawberry yogurt.

Reading about how many calories you're getting in is making me nervous! I'm averaging 700-800 a day. I'm afraid I'm over eating.

Nice to hear a doctor say average weight loss for the first month is 15lb. I lost more on my pre op liquid diet than I have so far post op ????

But you're much taller than I am so those calories are probably good for you! I am not expert. I'm not strict on the calories, but that is what I have noticed my trend to be in myfitnesspal. The only thing I am very strict on is that my carbs cannot be over 50, those are doctor's orders. And I have chosen not to add any fruit in, except every couple days I'll have a 1/3 cup of Weyman's blueberries, cherries, and kale frozen mix in my Protein smoothie.

I have to say I really thought the weight loss would be faster than this. I too lost more quickly pre-op. But I did check with my surgeon and I am going to stick with what she says. This is a common topic in my hospital's FB support group. Everybody thinks the weight is going to come right off. I was really hoping for 20 pounds a month but that might be unrealistic. My body really is fighting me to keep this fat!! I think maybe it's confused, with the surgery and the low calorie and carb levels.

What is everyone doing for exercise at this point? I have been walking. I go to my 1 month follow up on Monday so I expect to get some more guidance about adding weights back in.

I have only been walking, I am not yet released to do anything else. Usually 1-1.5 miles/day.

I love fruit and have been finding it hard to limit how much I eat of that. I'm going to call my Dr's office to see about specifications. A friend who had the surgery at the same hospital said they recommended 90-130g carbs and 1000-1300 calories a day. My stall finally seems to be ending so I'm feeling relieved.

I've been walking so far, aiming for atleast 8,000 steps a day to work up to 10,000. I was told to wait till the 6 week Point to lift more than 20lb.

Guess what... I jumped on the scale again this morning only to disappoint myself with the same number that has been on the scale for the last 3 days. You'd think I would quit looking for a while. :)

I've been averaging 500-550 calories. Been focusing on keeping my Protein above 70g per day, sugars and carbs below 5g per meal, and fats below 10g per meal... Dr's plan. Last week I was released to get "really hot and sweaty"... ha! Cardio only. Still can't lift over 10 lbs until 6 weeks out. I have a spin bike at the house so I've been turning up the resistance and "getting sweaty" for 30-45 minutes a night. There were a couple days where I was too tired so I walked instead. I'm down a total of 25 lbs, but 12 of that was pre-op.

Glad to see I'm not alone in this boat. Hopefully all of us will start losing again soon.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... Even though the scale isn't moving the inches are still coming off (or shifting). My "fat pants" which were really tight before this this journey are now falling off by butt!! So something is working at least.

How are my 3/31 friends?

I had my one month follow up this week. The nurse practitioner said I was doing well and have lost 15% of my excess weight. My goal for my three month follow up is 33%.

They used a weird formula, my surgery weight - my ideal weight, take that answer and then divide into the number of pounds lost to date. Since I am 5'6", my ideal weight is 130 (which they acknowledged was too low, the surgeon said add 20 or 30 pounds and that is realistic) and I had lost 19 lbs since surgery, this was my formula:

255-130=125

19/125=.152

Wow, our stats are really close. I'm 5'5", starting weight 252, goal weight 150.

All is good my world. One of the absorbable stitches (that didn't "absorb" yet) started to pop through my skin so I pulled it out. That's about the most exciting news I have this week. My next checkup is at 6 weeks. Hopefully I'll have some good news to share then.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
