Insurance Approval (!) and EGD procedure

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am excited to say that my insurance has approved my surgery! I have Aetna. It was sent in on Feb 20 and was approved on Feb 26. I was surprised it was so quick! I have yet to schedule my surgery date. I'm going to try to make it for the end of April. I still don't know how much $$ I'm going to need exactly. The woman at the doctor's office gave me some figures that the doctor/hospital requires but that didn't include my insurance out of pocket. I'm lost when it comes to insurance talk. Lol I am planning on calling tomorrow to talk about it and schedule my surgery.

My next step is the EGD procedure which is scheduled for next Tuesday, Mar 17. My doctor requires this before surgery. I'm kind of nervous. Ive never been sedated before. A friend of mine that went to the same doctor did the procedure and she acted like it wasn't a big deal at all. She said her throat wasn't even sore, which I thought may be the case. Any advice or things I should expect about the EGD would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks =))

Hi, it really isn't a big deal at all. My throat wasn't sore either. It is over so quick. You'll be done before you know it! I know you are nervous sweetie. It is always a nervous thing being sedated, but it is quick and they sedate you through an Iv. You will fall into a nice sleep and wake up asking if they are done. :D

I also have Aetna. What "hoops" did you have to jump through for them? I really want to be able to do the surgery mid June so I can have time to recover before going back to school.

Thank you Mommoftwogirls! The procedure went fine. I woke up easily. The only thing that happened was they must have bumped my bottom lip because I woke up with my lower lip numb and I had a tooth bite imprint inside my lower lip. Later on that night it was purple and bruised on the outside. It was sore for about a week. :unsure:

Invictus - I had to do 3 months of nutrition appointments and that was all. She asked what I was eating and suggested other things to eat and what exercises to do. I was relieved it wasn't too difficult to go through for the insurance company. I love Aetna! Good Luck to you =))

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
