Hi everyone! I'm officially booked for April 25th in Mexico.

I started this journey at 190 lbs which on my 4'10" body feels like a million pounds. After the last week of low carbs, high Protein I am at 187 lbs. I start the liquid pre-op diet Saturday and I'm hoping to be at 185 lbs the day of surgery.

I am also scheduled for April 25th in Mexico... Congratulations

Hi everyone!

I'm Michelle and I am 30 years old. I'm from Orlando, FL. My sleeve is my 30th bday present to myself. I want to be healthy and more active (and skinny but I feel kind of bad admitting that! lol). I have been an ER RN for 10 years and of course I'm getting alot of grief from my co-workers about having surgery in Mexico. But I'm not letting that bother me!

Surgery date: 4/10/15

Surgeon: Elias Ortiz

Hospital: Mi Doctor in TJ

Ht: 5' 6.5"

HW 262

CW 255

GW 160ish

I start my 2 week pre-op diet next Friday and I'm kind of excited but dreading that part!! I'm having my gallbladder removed when I have my sleeve as well.

I am also with Dr. Ortiz on April 25th, I have been getting a lot of grief from friends and family about going to Mexico as well...

I also want to have my gallbladder removed the same time as the sleeve, is this common? I haven't set my surgery date yet still researching have any of you seen any post about Medical Tourism and Dr Mario Camelo Ramos?

@@4evertonya, I've not seen many posts in this forum but ask your agent to send you testimonials. She's got a list if emails of people who have gone there. I wrote to them and they all had super good experiences and some food tips too, like bringing gas-x strips!! I'm actually scheduled at another surgery center but it wasn't for anything bad is heard. I've heard Dr. Camelo is a great surgeon and that the nurses speak English. And the other Dr that takes care of you is awesome as well. By the way, if you bring someone with you they can stay in your room for free. I live here in Tijuana and have been by the clinic it's a block from a Walmart and about 3-4 blocks to the beach. It has a beautiful courtyard you can walk around in, so your not stuck inside all the time! Also pics in the florence vs INT hospital forum. :)

@@4evertonya , I went to Dr. Camelo. I had a great experience. All the Doctors and nurses were very nice and spoke English. My husband stayed in the room with me. My surgery was 4/3. So I am a month out. I was worried that I hadn't heard anything about him either. Bianca at medical tourism was a great contact and gave me information of former patients.

Good luck!

Some doctor's will not take out your gallbladder if you haven't had any problems prior. But I asked my surgeon to remove mine because I didn't want to have to have a second surgery a few months down the line if my GB went bad. Some people are just fine and never have any GB issues but most WLS patients end up having to have theirs removed at some point. Rapid weight loss causes gallstones to form and that makes the GB angry. I did lots of research and did not make my decision to have a perfectly good organ removed without months of consideration.

I didn't think that my recovery was any harder than anyone else's despite having the sleeve and GB removed. I actually did alot better than most of the ladies that had surgery the same day as me. I had an amazing time in mexico and would go back to do it all over again in a heartbeat. I had a wonderful experience. 3.5 weeks post-op and down 31lbs. Can't complain about that!! lol

Some how in all my research I missed the part about the gall bladder or I might have had it done at the same time..too late now lol

So just wanted to check in and see how everyone who had surgery in April/May of this year is doing? I am doing great and going to Mexico and having my surgery on April 25th, was the best thing I have ever done for myself. My experience with ALM was good from start to finish.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
