Out of surgery 2 hours ago. Left side/flank pain is not good! But it is where the drain is, so I am sure it will get better. Already walked 300+ feet. A little unsteady but it felt good to move! Day 5 for no real food, so feeling weak and tired! Overall I am doing great and the team here is super nice!

I am so excited for everyone!

I ordered Protein Powder samples from Unjury.  They have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, chicken and unflavored.  I am really curious about the chicken and unflavored, I get tired of the sweet ones.

I ordered those as well but haven't tried them yet. I am also ordering Shakeology and I ordered Chocolate and Vanilla from Zeal..

I'm hoping to go end of May or June. I'm a bit worried about staying hydrated at work, I'm a nurse too, and get dehydrated now when I do 3 in a row!

Hi Angela, how is it going? My Dr here in San Diego said my ins won't pay until I try and fail at 3 different diets (with documented proof) 6 mons each and then I'd also need to have a debilitating illness like high bp or diabetes. I want to lose weight before I get sick! So I'm going to have it done in Mexico. I'm worried I'm going to have trouble staying hydrated, especially since I'm a nurse and get a bit dehydrated when I work now!!! (We can't keep fluids with us) and frankly I'm s bit lazy about drinking all the Water in suppose to. So how are you doing?

I'm 40 5' 2". 229

I was sleeved on 4/3. I am struggling with calories. How many should I have?

Also my drain incision is still open and about the size of a pencil eraser. Anyone else have this problem?

Keep your drain opening clean and covered with gauze to keep it clean, but it should heal up ok, if it has a smell, looks red or draining green or yellow drainage have it looked at, as that could be a sign of infection. (just this nurses opinion, I haven't had that experience personally). :)

I am reading all the post and excited for you all. I had my sleeve in Mexico. Dr Rod did the surgery removed the band and sleeve the same day. I didn't have a drain but everything went great. I plan on having a resleeve and hoping Dr Rod will do. I do have a backup plan

When i consulted with dr. Rod about resleeving I was told he doesn't think it's a good idea and recommends the revision to MGB instead, I did a ton of research and have to say I agree, he is doing mine on 4/23.

@cute 1

Have you consulted with Dr. Rod at all ? Any ideas what happened with your sleeve?

I don't think 80 percent was cut away maybe because of scarring. I am supposed to mail a copy of disc to Dr Rod. I don't think I stretched it out. I have been talking to Jamie for about 8 months about how I was feeling, always hungry from day one.

had a lapband for 6 years, I LOVED my band, I went from 223 to 139 lbs and I maintained around 145 for years ! However, in order to do that I had to keep the band very tight. I couldn't eat anything before noon or after 6 without pain and suffering. When my body had enough I had shoulder pain and chest pain and never just felt full. I was always dehydrated and ended up with kidney stones twice but i was happy to sacrifice because I was a size 6/8 for the first time in my life ! But live long enough that way and it causes problems (severe reflux) and just misery any time you eat or try too. My surgeon started offering the sleeve and after years of "selling" the band to others (with my personal success as a witness) I asked him to revise me to the sleeve because everyone said how wonderful it was. Well for many it is but for me I hate mine. It's not always the same for someone who has had prior surgery so as I type this today, I have gained 20 lbs since the sleeve and it's a fight (that I'm losing) to not gain more. I had many barium swallows over the years that always showed a dilated pouch. Sorry so long, I pasted it from a prior post lol

Hi everyone! I'm officially booked for April 25th in Mexico.

I started this journey at 190 lbs which on my 4'10" body feels like a million pounds. After the last week of low carbs, high Protein I am at 187 lbs. I start the liquid pre-op diet Saturday and I'm hoping to be at 185 lbs the day of surgery.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
