I am having my surgery tomorrow. I've been thinking about this for 2 years, and had the first surgery scheduled for January 13th, and broke my leg instead, so had to have a plate and 8 screws put into my leg. Now my day is finally here--I thought I'd be more excited than scared, but right now I am more scared than excited. Feeling like I should run down to the kitchen, make a hamburger and call it quits. Anyone else this scared?

I was nervous and scared also at the beginning but it will pass hun. I also waited over 2 yrs to get it done and i finally had it done may 1st. Right now i am having lots of gas pain but other than that im ok. Just not eating anything but then again im not hungry.. I found popsicles soo good at this stage which is clear liquid stage... Im done on the 8th then i can add yogurt and fat free milk to my diet can't wait for that ;) good luck hun u will be fine.. It will be all worth it... I started on may 1st with 261 pounds and i just weight myself and lost 7 pounds

I'm still a but out to be nervous - I am sure I will either after my Wed appt. or when I start the liquid diet - that is when I think it will become real to me.

Hey may sleevers! I'm scheduled fo May 26th. Emotional Rollercoaster is finally starting to slow down as I begin preparing for the actual event. I have started the liquid diet ahead of time, doing 2 replacements a day and food for the 3rd meal. I don't have to start the liquid diet until the 12th (per surgeon) but I needed to mentally prepare myself-it would've been too big of a shock to the system just going cold turkey.

How is everyone else doing knowing surgery is so close?

i thought about starting the liquids early but not real sure - mostly I am just taste testing different Protein Drinks to figure out what I like.

I am so glad I found this app and forum. Most of my family keeps questioning my choice and it makes me question myself. It is wonderful to find a place where I am not alone in my feelings of nervousness and my concerns. I have found a support group and I am very thankful for it

Hey SassyXRay,

its awesome that we are having it done the same day and same dr. That is so cool! I haven't started the Protein Shakes yet but I have tried the lean shake by GNC Choc. Flavor. I thought it was good and loaded with Protein.

Update: Sleeved on yesterday!!! I feel pretty good aside from the gas pain. It's horrible. I'm getting up walking as often as I can. One thing popped up this morning. My white blood cell count is high so they are redrawing my blood to make sure. Other than that I'm super excited and ready to go home. Hope all my May 4th sleevers are doing well too...

Okay ...vsg done yesterday noon time and went up to hospital room around 5pm... Spent a lot of time in recovery and in some pain. Thru the night had nausea and discomfort. Was pescribed dilaudid so I in and out it all night. This morning had a ctscan while drinking white liquid. No leaks were found so now I'm on clear liquid. Now after I got back from ctscan 4-5 oz of Water and started throwing but it was more of a dry heave. I got to get use to my new stomach.

@@VivKS, don't let your family get you down. My family doesn't really understand either. If I had a $ for the number of times I've heard "I just don't understand why you can't just do this on your own", I'd be rich. But I know I need the help the surgery will provide and as long as you understand why this is your best option, you'll be fine as well.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
