How to ask for 6 days off at work

Your surgeon's office should have no problem providing a letter.

You didn't. FYI - don't ever allow an employer to make you feel that you have to devulge personal information such as this. It's illegal. You didn't need to tell her anything other than you had a personal issue that requires time off and you are making her aware 3 weeks in advance. She can ask, but all you have to say is it's a personal issue.

Thanks for letting me know this.

I already checked the handbook and it says something about the FMLA, I qualified! Then I emailed my patient coordinator and told me she does FMLA paperwork every day for her patients without any problem.

Start gettingn your paperwork together. And then call your human resource person and get them on board with what you need.

Next time remember you don't need an ignorant managers permission for a health event nor do you need to share information with ignorance.

She probably doesn't know the FMLA laws either and if she tries to tell you you won't have a job.... Call HR immediately!

I read this experience with her employer and felt white-hot righteous indignation on the OPs behalf. I hope the OP is able to work this out in her favor. Good luck!

I would advise you to just put in the time, You are not at all obligated to tell anyone why you are needing time off especially when it comes to medical, there are laws to protect you from that kind of harrassment. Just tell them you need to be out for medical reasons and leave it at that. If they push you for more information tell them you do not feel comfortable disscussing it. let them gossip all they want. Good lick and you are in my thoughts.

"I have to have surgery in 2 weeks. I plan on being off 6 days, then can come back after"

"Surgery? Why? What surgery?"

"I would rather not discuss it"

Thank you so much for all the answers.

Now something came up.

I got a call from a new job I had applied a month ago.

They called me yesterday but I was working and by the time I left from work, the office was already closed.

I'm 99.9% sure that they are calling me to give me the job and my surgery is on the 28th (not sure about that either because Citerra is giving me a hard time).

Do you think they will let me go for a week for medical reasons when they just hired me?

You could always ask if you could just postpone starting the new job until after you are recovered.

@@JennG25 - When they ask for your start date you let them know that you have a procedure scheduled for the 28th and won't be able to start until __________ date. Do not offer any other information.

I hope they understand. I don't want to postpone it either. Thank you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
