No support person for Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm scheduled to be sleeved in TJ on May 4th. My husband just changed jobs and doesn't have any time to get away to accompany me. I also am reluctant to ask a friend as it feels like too much to ask. I have no fears about doing this solo (I lived alone in rural West Africa for three years) but want feedback from others who have been through the process. Do I need someone there to be attentive to the process? I am primarily concerned about something going wrong during the procedure and no one to advocate for me. What do you think? Valid concern or not a worry? Thanks!

I personally went alone and had no issues but everyone is different. When I was picked up at the airport, the van was full of already picked up patients. I met them all during the ride and we all became friends. We ate dinner together at the hotel and of course you travel back and forth together. I went walking with 4 of the others that night. Only one other person was there alone, the other 4 had support people with them. I left my purse and jewelry with one of the other support people while I was in surgery. When I came out of surgery and any time I needed something, someone's support person was there to help me and check on me. The only thing I did in case of emergency was to notify them that, as soon as I was stable enough, I wanted to be transferred to the naval hospital in San Diego. That was only if there were complications, etc. Other than that, I had all the support and help I could ask for. I was initially scared to death about being there alone but as soon as I was in the van, I was fine from then on! Best of luck to you!

My sleeve is scheduled for March 2 in Tijuana and I will be going alone. I have read way to many testimonials on this forum that speak how safe it is. Good luck!!!

My hubby went with me, but out of my 3 sleeve sisters 2 of them were there solo. There were plenty of other women during my stay that came alone and had no problems. Your coordinator at the hospital will help you with anything you need as well but you'll make friends and should have a great network that will most likely become your lifelong sleeve sisters. I was at Mi Doctor Hospital in TJ. My coordinator that sets it all up, connected me with one of my fellow Sleevers, so we had already connected before we met. You should also try Sassy Sleevers on Facebook, it's a closed group but you might find others going the same time you are, you'll have to be added to the group. There's around 10,000+ members, it's a great support group as well. :)

I hope you love Dr. Ortiz as much as I did. He did a great job and he will answer any questions you have! And his drivers are all sweet and so much fun. Best of luck to you too and see you on the other side!

I went alone and had no issues. In fact, I think it was better/easier going alone, because then I wasn't worried about another person's comfort and happiness. I could just focus on myself.

I also went alone and had no worries. There were a couple of others that were alone also. You shouldn't have any fear. Your coordinators will take good care of you.

Oh I'm a dummy. I thought your surgery date was March 4th not May 4th :-/ I was thinking we'd be there together. Darn it. I was excited too :-/

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
