Saw my Dr. On Friday and I have two things left before I can schedule

Recommended Posts

He wants me to lose 10 pounds and I have to complete a sleep study ( scheduled for 2/16/15). As soon as both are complete we can schedule my surgery. Starting tomorrow I am doing low carb and Meal Replacement shakes. I know if I stay focused I can lose 10 pounds by the time I have the sleep study. FYI I also had to quit smoking which I did the end of November. Thankfully when I weighed in on Friday I had not gained any weight since quitting:) I thought for sure I had put on 3-5 pounds. I hope to have the surgery the last week of February! Did anyone else have difficulties with their pre-op weight loss requirement?

Yes, my doc wanted me to lose 15 pounds. Normally, I can drop that no problem, however, in the last year I have had a baby, breastfed, had pneumonia, and just got over bronchitis..was given prednisone, which makes me gain. I haven't gained, but only lost 3 pounds. They approved me for surgery anyways, probably because of the steroid.

The sleep study was what caused delays for me. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea and need a CPAP machine this can set you back several weeks. Second sleep study to find the right CPAP settings then getting the equipment set up, etc. My surgeon wouldn't operate until I was cleared by the pulminologist (sleep doc) and he wanted me on the machine for 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Set me back about 6 weeks with scheduling all the tests visits etc

Hopefully you won't be diagnosed and can sail through. Now that I've had the surgery I'm ok with the delay. But I was pretty pissed at the time! Lol

I didn't have any requirements of how much weight to lose before they scheduled my surgery. I also didn't have to do a sleep study. Thank God. I did have a 6 month supervised diet that I had to do though. But this I was thankful for because I needed that time to wrap my head around all the changes that would be taking place after the surgery.

Good Luck with everything and I hope you get scheduled soon!

@ jenjen262 good luck on your journey. I was just told I needed the sleep study too.

@ Debbie Jean did you have to take your CPAP to the hospital with you? Are you still on your CPAP now?

I had the same type of situation. I lost some weight by drinking a Protein Shake for Breakfast, having another one for lunch and a piece of fruit, and a small dinner (eggs and toast or salad or vegetable soup). I didn't get all the weight off but I did lose enough for my surgeon to approve surgery. I am just waiting for insurance approval and should be having surgery mid-February .

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
