Woman question - heavy cycle after surgery??

Recommended Posts

Hi there... I am 3.5 weeks Post-Op and my cycle began 2 days ago and it has been SUPER heavy. I can soak through a pad in less than 2 hours and am having pretty big clots. I am a little worried but this may be a side effect of surgery. I'm not sure. Wanted to see if anyone else experience this before I run and call my doc.

its possible, I did have a few months where I seemed to be experiencing quite severe hormonal disruption, it hit me at about 8 months out, suddenly I was having bad PMT, really painful periods and associated irritable bowel episodes, it was awful since I've had easy, light, painless periods that are regular since I had my first baby 12 years ago. But its settled again now.

My doc says its not unusual for this sort of thing to happen.

This could also be related to age, and it could be coincidence that this is just happening to you now. I'm not sure how old you are, but once I got past 40 (I'm 43), the heavy periods, clots, and extreme cramping have become quite commonplace. This is common with age. Both my personal physician and my ob/gyn have told me to take 3 advil every 6 hours during the first 3-4 days of my period. It reduces cramping, flow voume and clot passage. It is amazingly effective. I was banded just 2 mos ago and have only had one fill, so I am still able to swallow 3 tablets at a time, but this can become more difficult as you are more restricted, so play it by ear. Good luck!

Thank you Syrah & Jachut. I have found my age, even though I feel young, has effected me in many ways with this surgery. All of my others surgery's I have bounced back a lot quicker than this. I had a huge hernia repaired just 2 years ago and had a 5 inch cut in my lower abdomen and was moving around faster it seems than 5 small incisions. So I guess I'm not too surprised. Things have eased up so I'm not ask concerned as I was during those bad 2 days. It was tough...

I am just now suffering the hunger now!!!! It's like my body said, OK we are tired FFFEEEDDD MMMEEE and of course I can't eat like I am use to. I guess I am just going thru the after period blahs because today is the first day I wish I hadn't had this surgery. Tomorrow will be better I hope.

Tough day for me......

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
