@@BLERDgirl I sounds Like your plan is doing quit well for you! I guess we are all doing pretty darn well since we are losing! My goal should be to try to eat more real food and wing myself off the shakes like you have! I really like mY shakes though and they make my numbers look so pretty :)

@ No, I haven't tried that because of my NUT and her "protein first" Moto. I don't see her anymore though. She really didn't teach me ANYTHING! Nice but thats about it! I get a lot of my information on here too so I'm glad you are getting tips and enjoying the site!

At 6 weeks they told me they wanted me to start getting most of my Protein from real food and not to rely on shakes. Except for portion size this is pretty much how I ate pre-op. I always had a shake in the mornings because I can't eat and work out. It make me vomit. However now I make double the size shake and have half before and half after working out.

My nutritionist always reviewed my food dairy to see what I was eating and not just that I was getting in Protein so I've been trying to eat as balanced as possible. Besides I'm more satisfied eating real food even if it is in small portions.

@@SuperDave Do you have that yucky ketosis metal taste in your mouth?! I'm so over that nasty taste! I figured it would go away but it's been two months and it's still there!! I think if I were to eat a fair amount of carbs it would probably go away...for awhile. I don't want to eat carbs though! Not like that!

Definitely still have that taste in my mouth, especially when I wake up! It is disgusting!

For what it's worth, my nutritionist said the same thing as yours. Protein first, then fill up with veggies or fruit. I really only eat veggies at dinner though, and then I have to force myself to do it. I'm just never hungry for them after the Protein.< /p>

I was only averaging around 750 calories a day. With working out 5 days a week, I wasn't eating enough food. My NUT set a goal of 1100 calories a day in order for me to lose weight. I struggle with it sometimes though. I just don't eat that much. I notice when I eat more calories, I lose more. I live off Protein Shakes, Protein Bars, cheese sticks, turkey, eggs, Peanut Butter, carrots and any kind of greens (kale, collards, etc.)

I haven't been tracking my food intake very well. I just try to stay under 600-700 calories a day. I honestly think I have developed a fear of food.

I have a scrambled egg for Breakfast, then I may have some coffee. I try to drink a Protein Shake, but they are really sweet now. I'm also struggling to get my fluids in, averaging about 48 oz per day. For a late lunch/early dinner I may have cottage cheese, or some turkey or chicken.

I know in my head this isn't enough, but I would be devastated if the scale started climbing. I've lost 63 lbs since I started getting ready for this journey in late July.

I did try saltines, as my NUT said they were allowed at this point (sleeved 11/3) but found myself craving them, so those are gone from the pantry.

It's so bizarre now-I'm not hungry at all and I don't find the pleasure in food that I once did.

@@MyKidsMom89 I understand what your saying, I'm not hungry and the thought of eating more scares me a little too, it just seems backwards. It's really time consuming because I wait the 30 before and after I eat to drink, and in return getting my Water in is a all day process. I just tell myself this will get easier when my sleeve relaxes a bit. We just had crab legs for dinner.I could only eat 2 stinking legs, not whole claws just legs. I also had half a seafood stuffed Mushroom. All together it's only 150 calories. There's something about crab legs that hurts my belly, I don't understand that because a Quest bar is much more dense but it doesn't bother me at all. That's not enough for dinner so I will be drinking another shake...thank jesus they have shakes!

As far as losing more while having more calories, I wonder if the body then has more to burn (since we put so little in to begin with) as opposed to having too little to burn (perhaps the body goes into self-preservation, thus hoards the calories to prevent it from losing too much). IT'S ALL SCIENCE TO ME....! And as far as the half and half plate thing, NUT suggested to eat the Protein as the priority, but try to eat it all. My program is very slow to advance; I had my surgery on Dec. 3rd, and I won't be on regular food until Jan. 27th. I guess they want to make sure we heal perfectly. The only thing I have with that is it seems my sleeve isn't stretching or enlarging, but staying as it was created. All my portions stay under 2 ounces. Is this unusual to any of you?

@ Oh, yes the blessed starvation mode! Big fat thanks to the cave men! It's a lovely little mechanized to have if you were actually going to starve but when your Not and have plenty of access to food it just sucks!! I do the 2oz thing on most of my Protein sometimes a little more (but I usually can't eat what I have) . Finnish a combination plate would be nice but unfortunately for me I get full strictly on the protein portion 99.9% of the time. It's a good theory though! Maybe once I'm a little more advanced?!

I know, today I had a very, very softly scrambled egg, which actually was a double yolk egg, and it was all I could do to get through 1/2 of it. I guess I need to buy small size eggs! On Jan. 7th I get to have soft foods, and I am insisting we go to a restaurant. That meal should last me, say 7-8 days?!!!!!

I am 6 months out this month and have been using MFP to track my food daily for the past 2 months. I average about 700 calories a day, 11 cups of Water, over 100 grams of Protein, and about 15 grams of net carbs a day. I've been working out about 5 days a week for the past 3 months which is the reason why I bumped up my Protein ( 1-2 shakes a day). Like you, I eat very little fruit and a few green veggies. So far, so good for me, I'm down over 100 lbs. since surgery ( next weigh in is next week). I find myself now getting a bit more hungry. I'm not sure if its from exercising or just being further out from surgery. I now try to mix in some different Proteins that are a bit higher in calories and fat instead of just eating a lot of chicken and turkey. ( Deli roast beef, sliced really thin has become a new favorite!) My MFP user name is: tamg26k. I share my food diary there. I like to review some of the other WLS members who share their diary.

My husband and I were both sleeves on 9/11/14. We eat between 800 and 1000 calories, 80 to 100 grams Protein, and 40 to 60 grams carbs each day. Part of that is a Premier Protein every day, which gives us 30 grams to start the day. We also try to always eat a dannon light and fit greek yogurt every day, which is another 12 grams of protein. So far he's lost 73 pounds and I've lost 77. He's only got another 20 pounds or so until he reaches his goal. I've got another 103 to go.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
