For the people actively Losing weight that track food...

Recommended Posts

How far along are you? How many calories do you average? How many (net) carbs? (If you don't know net then just carbs in general) In a day. I know everyone is different with different recommendations I'm just curious as to the numbers. ( I say "actively"because I know some people are in maintenance, I say "losing" but I'm aware of stalls so it still counts if you are In the process!!!). Thank you kindly in advance!!!

I get in between 650 - 850 a day, but I think I average about 800.

Just ran a report on MFP. If I am doing it correctly it says I has 588 net calories on 01/01 and 742 calories total. Hopefully that gives you an idea.

I'll be 8 weeks post-op this coming Monday. I average 900 calories a day. My low calorie day over the last week was 700, my high was 1100, on New Years Eve. Total carbs are 30-35. Net carbs are 10-12. I'm at about 80 grams of Protein. About half of my calories and carbs every day come from Protein shakes and bars. I've lost 36 pounds since surgery. I think I covered it all!

Ok so I'm doing ok then...@@SuperDave you and I are pretty close my surgery was 11/3. I finally got up to 800 calories but that's With two shakes and a Quest bar that's 510 of the calories. 80 grams of Protein. Then I eat some food usually 2 egg whites, turkey bacon and 1/4 avocado. Then dinner is usually 2oz grilled chicken with 1/2 boiled egg, or some seafood. I round out to 90+ grams of protein. I don't have any apatite but my surgeon wants me to up my calories to 11-1200 and he said to eat carbs. I only get about 10 max net carbs a day if that but once I eat the protein I don't feel like eating anything else. I've only had 18 grams of sugar in 5 days. I read that the average recommended amount of sugar is 25 grams a DAY! I don't feel bad at all and I'm obviously not tired. I've lost 32 lbs now. I guess I shouldn't worry about it, I don't worry about weight as much as my overall health from the food and nutrients I am getting or lack thereof. I drink all my fluids + I'm just curious as to what people are doing.

@@Elode - I am in the same situation. The surgeon wants my calories and carbs higher than what they are right now, but I'm just not hungry! I also drink 2 Protein shakes a day, usually 1 Premier and 1 that I make at home, and a Quest bar. Then an egg for Breakfast and 2 ounces of meat and 2 ounces of veggies for dinner. I try to eat a few nuts or a little cheese for a snack, but like I said, I'm not normally hungry. I have noticed that I lose more weight in the weeks when I really try to keep my calories on the high end. Of course that goes against everything I have ever been told so it is hard to wrap my brain around it!

@@SuperDave Funny we have the same diet practically. It is odd to hear a Dr (or anyone) Say to eat more. I'm sure I could if I just really made myself. I'm also not getting as much exercise as I should, when I start working out more I will put more focus on eating. I don't want to stall myself. I guess I won't really know since I only weigh maybe twice a month. My clothes are lose and I can see the changes in the mirror.

@@SuperDave Do you have that yucky ketosis metal taste in your mouth?! I'm so over that nasty taste! I figured it would go away but it's been two months and it's still there!! I think if I were to eat a fair amount of carbs it would probably go away...for awhile. I don't want to eat carbs though! Not like that!

I am 800/900 a day and I was sleeved on 11.12. My carbs I avg under 40 a day and have lost 54lbs. Based on other replies looks like I'm in the same range.

I'm almost 20 weeks post-op. On December 10 (3 weeks ago), my surgeon's office told me to start ratcheting my calories up from 800 cals/day to 1,000 cals/day--because they want my metabolic rate to keep increasing. Fine with me!

But that calorie increase and Christmas coincided with my first stall. However, I was OK with that, given the reason for the calorie increase.

I've been successful in getting my calories up to 1,000 most days (it was actually a little harder than I'd imagined it would be). And this morning the scales finally dropped 2 pounds. :)

So onward and downward. :)

P.S. At this point, my carbs are a lot higher than the rest of you -- typically, 65 to 100+ carbs a day. I'm doing this on purpose to: (1) avoid ANY chance of developing bariatric hypoglycemia (this happens to only a few people, but you do NOT want to be one of the people who suffer from this lifelong malady!), (2) to add in veggies and fruits (I'm up to at least 5 a day now -- yea!), and (3) I just simply need the carbs to keep my energy level high.

@@VSGAnn2014 Wow! I haven't even had a piece of fruit in almost 3 months! I think they drove in the whole " Protein first" bit a little too hard. Thats what all my information and pamphlets say. My NUT said to Make my plate, eat my protein and then if there's any room left eat the other foods. The problem is there's never any room left so I'm almost purely protein. Now they want to switch it up on me....confusing!

Well I take that back I eat avocado and technically it's a fruit so I guess I don't eat vegetables! Goodness! Maybe this is worse then I thought!

I am learning so much from you guys...thank you! Have you tried the 1/2 Protein - 1/2 carb on your plate trick? I am still on pureed, so I am absorbing all you guys are saying. My workbook tells me to do the half and half thing, and that starts on the soft food stage (which for me starts Jan. 7). Good luck to you!

Okay trying this again. Looking at the past 7 days I avg about 716 calories a day and 68 gms Protein with 52 grams of carbs. I'm 3½ months out. I was sleeved on 9/18. My carbs are going to be a bit higher than most because I'm vegetarian and get some of my Protein from Beans. I'm doing one shake in the morning and regular meals for lunch and dinner. I only eat an afternoon snack if I'm really hungry. As of 12/19 I've lost 48lbs but I'm due for a weight in. I not feeling deprived or super hungry so I'll wait until I check in with the doctor before raising my calories. I was allowed fruit once I hit soft food stage. So far I've had peaches, pineapple, oranges and avocado. Just bought an apple. Apples are hard for me because of the nerve damage from the trigeminal neuralgia, but I'm going to try diced apple with a little bit of almond butter as a snack.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
