Hi,I was banded December 27, 2006 in Texarkana, TX. I am doing okay will my fills. Not losing like I would like, but I'm not exercising like I should, so that is slowing me down. My concern is that I'm really losing a lot of my hair. I read pre-op that Hair loss was a side-effect of the lap-band. Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing this and what if any suggestions anyone might have.

Thanks, Jane :)

I was banded the day before you were and I am losing hair and have been for months, it is finally slowing down and I believe it is due to major condtioning(the slowing down), is your hair really dry now? The doc said it was due to lack of nutrients, but I believe since it was not coming out at the root , it was breaking off it was due to being so dry now and breaking off. I use a really good conditioner and then use a leave in treatment and it has made a huge difference. Just my 2 cents , I just know it is working for me. Hope you find something that works for you, I also started using hot oil treatments. My hair has never been dry before and it sure is now.

I am loosing soooo much hair! But I am also not getting in the Protein like I used to, so this might explain it. I literally clean a ton out of my brush several times a day and it gets all over my shirts. I've always liked my hair- my one redeeming feature- so it's like loosing an old friend. Makes me sad.

I can completely sympathize. It's been 3 months since my surgery and all of a sudden boom I’m cleaning way more hair out of brush than I used to and if I run my fingers through my hair it comes out too. My hair is fairly long so right now it's not very noticeable but if it keeps going the way it is it's not going to be pretty! I've started taking Biotin and using nioxin Shampoo. I've never had an issue with my hair before; I’ve always had really thick hair.

I was banded 2/07 and I have recently notice that I am losing hair also. Because I researched this surgery for 1 whole year I was suprise because yes Hair loss can occur with any WLS but it is more commom with gastric bypass patients because of the Protein deficiency. So I had my blood work done and I was deficient in Proteins. In spite of the fact that I still drank 3 Protein Shakes a day. So I would have my blood work check just to make sure everythng is OK.

It sound like a Protein deficiency. Even though it's not likely with our type of WLS it is still possible. I have had hair lose since my 3rd month. I have been on Biotin 3000mgs a day for the last 2 years & 2 daily Vitamins. It helps when my intake of Protein is good but if it's low then I immidately start to see it coming out.

We still need to be consistant with our protein intake and if not, this is one of the side effects. Hope this helps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
