my surgeon and nutritionist have me off coffee and tea Decaf or not for 6 months to start. decaf tea and decaf coffee still have caffeine in them. so I will make do.

Well, your bariatric team is partially correct. Yes, "true" teas including black, green, and oolong do contain caffeine, but most herbal teas absolutely do not. The plants they are made from simply do not contain caffeine so the teas are naturally caffeine-free. They do not go through a decaffeination process. And there are dozens of herbal teas to choose from.....Rooibos, camomile, peppermint, blackberry, roasted chicory, sage, lemon balm, ginger, honey bush, and hibiscus, to name a few.

I never drank tea before surgery, but have thoroughly enjoyed discovering the world of herbal teas. So much more variety than coffee.

Does anyone know if you can have Mio Energy? You basically put a couple of squirts in your Water and there is caffeine in it. It tastes like crystal light. I haven't had my surgery yet but am worried about caffeine withdraw. I can live without coffee and understand what it can do to your stomach but if I can get the "fix" from the Mio drink or from Green Tea, I might be able to get through a full day of work.....

It won't impede your weight loss. The concern is that for some it may cause excess stomach acid.

The issue isn't whether you drink coffee or tea, those are just the most common sources of caffeine. The concern is whether you should have caffeine at all. Check with your doctor to see if he will allow the Mio Energy on your program. it may be an acceptable trade off since you are using it in your Water.< /p>

I have coffee a couple times a week, that's including the weekly Wednesday 12oz white coffee sugar free white chocolate americano with a splash of almond milk, that helps me get through a mandatory boring 6am meeting at work, and it helps me Go to the bathroom without taking pills :)

I used to drink constantly before my pre op diet, now it's not as exciting. But I just got a keurig and found some sleepy time tea pods for it too :)

I used to drink 3-4 cups of regular coffee per day, pre-op. I thought, no big deal after surgery. I can still drink coffee. I can't. To experiment, I made regular coffee and drank it. HEARTBURN DELUXE!! So, I made some Decaf. No heartburn. I had to prove it to myself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
