What shocks you now that you were able to eat in a sitting?

I was one of them, I would often say I don't eat that much, and I'd believe it too! It's part of the disease. Even on diets, I'd think, "I'm cutting back and losing weight", but before I knew it, the weight was coming back on and I'd think I was still watching my diet. What makes us so blind? Wish I knew, I wouldn't have needed surgery.

As was I. We may THINK we aren't "eating that much", but I'll bet if we actually documented like we do now the amount of calories, fat grams, sugar grams, etc...YIKES! And I own up to it %100 now. I tell people "I know why I got/get fat....it's not family history, glandular, metabolism etc...(although I do know those contribute also) but too much food and not enough movement. Period."

Back in college, I could do the most damage in private. A pint of Ben & Jerry's. 1/2 tub of icing. A jar of queso with corn chips. A frozen pizza. Two rows of Oreos. When I got married, I cut back, but the two of us still "put away" tons of food at one sitting. We'd rarely ever have leftovers, and we'd quickly fill the trash with pre-made food packages... It's hard to wrap our brains around that now, and dear hubby didn't have surgery (he's lost 65 lbs as a byproduct of being supportive :)). It's like night and day for both of us.

Yeah, it's a little scary to remember what I used to put in my body with no regard for consequences. Now, I still sometimes have a problem with putting too much on my plate. I think I can eat it, then I get sick trying to. I'm working on that and I'm getting used to not eating ad much as my wife does and sharing an entree when we go out. Also. I never realized how many commercials and billboards are about fast food snd eating. Jeez. I'm a food snob now. Lol.

Donuts, cake and pastries. I can put 6 donuts away without even thinking about it. Oreos? A whole package easy.

That was me too. I am a sweets freak. Oreos or warm homemade Cookies and milk were my favorite and my curse. I can't believe how much sugar I used to consume. I could ear 20 of the toll house cookies at a time.

My favorite pre-op lunch? A dozen Buffalo Wild Wings (very spicy), with french fries, carrots with blue cheese dressing, and 4 large glasses of iced tea. Now? 4.5 oz of leftover steak and maybe a few green beans; and no drinking for 45 minutes. I enjoyed my eating more then, but I feel much better now. Bottom line? Now is better!

I'd eat pretty much the quantities that everyone else is mentioning BUT, I'd have a diet coke with it. Yanno, because that offsets it.

Even though I was 270 pounds I couldn't eat much in a siting. My largest meal was like a Chipotle Burrito or 3 slices of a large pizza. I never had more then 2 pieces of fried chicken. However. I could eat all day long. Every two hours or so. My danger foods were sweets. I could eat an entire home made apple pie. It would take the whole day but I would usually have the last slice before bed.

Now my refrigerator is Tiny Leftovers Land. There are so many tiny containers in there, all with food I would not have not even saved before. Who saves two tablespoons of mashed potatoes. I bought 4 potatoes last week. Well, one potato makes enough for 4 meals as a side. I still have 3 potatoes left. Next time I'll have to buy 2. I don't even have pots small enough to make one mashed potato. A can of Beans will last and last. Jeez, I'll have to freeze leftover Beans because all I need is 6 or 8 beans at a time. I made Pasta with Tomato sauce last night. One jar of sauce will last until next century.

I have not gone out to eat yet but but I fear the worst. An appetizer would still be huge for me. At this point costco tastings are my best bet. 99% of the restaurants would have ridiculous sized servings. I'll need to find some more upscale restaurants with the very small artsy servings. You know the ones with an entree comprised of a single scallop and a few bright and tasty sauces squiggled about. If that is not a first world problem I don't know what one is.

Welcome to the container club. I have my own section in the fridge with leftovers and homemade sauces. I have two fudge pops that have been in the freezer for three weeks. That was impossible pre op. I received my sugar free pecan sandies today and I immediately placed those in the freezer too,SMH. My hubby says that I hoard food now.

I've eaten a pie at one sitting many times. When I think about that now, it hardly seems real!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
